Here are a few more The Rockport built like a tank Attach a pair of caterpillar tracks to the front and rear then install a turret where the platter sits et voila, one very tuneful main battle tank. Cue The Ride Of The Valkyries...

Caliburn Continuum anyone? Only $150k. Yes, but this one I've heard and it really does sound very good.

Great thread! Ed Meitner's AT-2 turntable. Mad and also rather beautiful. The platter is a label sized flywheel. No other suport for the record. I too readily remember NOT bidding on one on ebay which went for £400 odd a good few years ago - very unique! The record is very slightly made concave by the clamp to increase it's rigidity. Almost a work of art in an 80s modernist way.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Audiowood Soundgarden. Heh. This would be much more popular in my gaff than the 1210s... Oh, and following on from the Mecano TT, I'll just leave this here...

Pretty neat, and clever marketing, but I'm not sure it really counts as 'analogue fun', as described.

Lego TT: Excellent! I also know about musical jellies but as there's no turntable involved, I won't go off topic. For days now, I've been trying to remember the name of a rather unusual eastern European turntable and it's just come to me - the Rational Audio AU/RA. It cost less than 200 quid in 1990. The motor was hanging on a set of springs and it had a simple and effective linear tracking arm mounted in the lid. There was also a matching amp that was a bit quirky. The volume knob was an L-shaped bit of bent bar a bit like the hand of a clock. If you pulled the knob, you could split the pre & power sections and there was no input switching at all. There were two line level inputs, a tape loop and a MM phono input. You just turned off or unplugged the sources that you didn't want to listen to. Or if you really felt like it, you could listen to them all at the same time!

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Audiowood Soundgarden. That's very nearly as hideous as those bloody horrible amps in coffin-like enclosures offered for ludicrous money on AoS a few years ago. Anyone remember those?

Pretty neat, and clever marketing, but I'm not sure it really counts as 'analogue fun', as described. Send them all a lovely vinyl record, and what do they do? Play a digital version in crappy sound quality from an iPhone. Not impressed!
