The plugin install error is apparently due to changing the pw to other than default If I try to change it back to the default, it says the password is too simple - oh joy ! I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you, honestly. That sounds exactly like something that would happen to me.

Yeah it's a fun one that I see folk getting quite irrate on the Volumio forum. I think it's a great piece of SW for free. As a former SW engineer / tester / trouble shooter, I know the manhours Michaelangelo has put into Volumio. I don't know if he gets money for it or how it's financed, I've not researched, but you have to have patience and understanding with these things if it's free.

It's better developed than some other audio software - ask John about SoTM. There is a small amount of funding in the €3/month subscription for Tidal/Qobuz use, but that would barely cover the development fees charged by those companies. Spotify I think is done for free by 'balbuze', a very clever programmer.
I come across far worse in the computing world. Like pretty much anything created by Adobe.

I think they've just started monetizing the brand. I know they're charging £0.89 for Volumio on the Amazon Fire for instance, and there are the two-tiered MyVolumio subs that Martin mentioned, with "Virtuoso" at €2.99 p.m. or €28.99 p.a. and "Superstar" at €6.99 p.m. or €66.99 p.a. There's also the Volumio Primo device, selling at €399.00. All in all, though, I think it's a definite labour of love for Michelangelo. As you said, there are a lot of man-hours involved, and I think anyone who's been associated with some part of "the business" will appreciate that. p.s. In case you hadn't noticed, Martin seems to believe that Adobe products are the spawn of Satan.

Agreed - I don't mind the small subscription per month for a good product (Virtuoso) that's still being improved. I've also paid for the app even though it's identical to browsing.
As for Adobe, the products are fine but very buggy and I detest them through several direct experiences despite being a volume customer. They are arses of the prime order.

Volumio tried making money by selling OEM versions to the likes of Bryston and John Westlake. Their latest service offering has more legs.

I couldn't do without Photoshop, it's a superb product, and I used Flash a lot when it was popular. Adobe Dreamweaver, on the other hand, should have been taken out and shot at dawn, plus they bought up my "go-to" website building tool and killed it, so I'm rather ambivalent about Adobe.

And John Westlake designed the Stream Box S2 according to the promo material, as well as the Pro-ject's PreBox, HeadBox S2, and DAC Box S2.

A new pi hybrid tube amp here. I'm sure it will be of interest to some but can't say it excites me, especially the mention of “Sweet Tube Sound” .

I've just ordered one of these to pop between my LPSU and the Pi for starters. It was just out of idle curiosity really, hence the cheapest solution I could find, but I may "upgrade" if it actually ends up serving a purpose.

I have a similar Chinese digital inline USB voltmeter/ammeter which I find handy for fault-finding.

I have previously used a similar thing to debug the charging of my previous phones... It was always something of a black art to get them to recharge at their fastest rate... experimented with all manner of high current chargers and heavy gauge power only USB leads.
In contrast. my OnePlus5 is coming up for its second birthday and if used with their own chargers (home and car) it really does do what it says on the tin and charge inline with the marketing blurb, which is something like 80% charge in 30mins
Cheers Sean

I see they have a choke on their lead. So seems to be a given - Chokes Yes
