Went to see this fellow at Union Chapel last night:
Supported by this chap:
Excellent performances all round, and surprising good sound in the chapel, pews were a little uncomfy though :/

Good venue, Union Chapel. The pews are uncomfortable after a bit, though. I got serious bench-bum watching Tina Dico there.

I went there recently to see my son sing with his school choir. Lovely venue, first time I had been there ...

I went to see Lauryn Hill at The Apollo, she didn't even come on until around 10PM to a frustrated crowd, wondered about the booing, and did some weird uptempo jazzy version of her songs, which just did not work. Compared to her unplugged album she was a shadow of her old self, and we ended up leaving early. Ah well!

Shame. I only know her from her unplugged album and that's very good.

Just back from an evening in the company of Ian McNabb. I saw him this time last year in the same place - a little venue in Lancaster. A good gig - solo with acoustic guitar and with a great little crowd.

Just back from an evening in the company of Ian McNabb. Last time I saw Nabby Chris he was pissed, in a way it was entertaining, but musically it was a dead loss. Good night though, as the group I was with decided to join him and we all got slammed!

I'm sure The Faces were well lubricated on some occasions when I saw them. Just a slightly different presentation

The Delines - Winchester Discovery Centre
The Delines are an American band with a gentle country/soul repertoire and outstanding musical talent. Amy Boone's voice was particularly pleasing, delivered with control and never over-doing it. She seemed calm and in the zone and I enjoyed her singing very much. There was great talent elsewhere, with the author (and main songwriter) Willy Vlautin's electric guitar picking out some nice counterpoint and the keyboard chap occasionally playing trumpet with one hand and keyboards with the other, quite a feat. Underpinning it all was very proficient drumming and a substitute bass player from Devon who could have easily been a permanent part of the band. Overall, they made a great sound and I found myself letting it wash over me with some strong feel-good qualities.
Their album Colfax is well worth investigating.
The venue is a good one (my first time) and very convenient for me, with a good view of the staqe, but they could have done with some air handling as it became markedly hot and stuffy with a full house. Also, the lights were not well done leaving us peering into the gloom when we wanted to see more of them.

Twas' a great night indeed Martin. Nice write up and that shot didn't come out so bad, considering the lack of lighting. The highlight for me was Amy solo with guitar signing 'Ode to Billie Joe', she really pulled that off. Dave Little (bass player) normally plays with Peter Bruntnell and Jim Jones (Small Town Jones) Martin - he's also a very accomplished 6 string guitarist.

He was good, learning all those songs in such a short time. I was impressed with how well he integrated into the band.
The camera on the Nokia (now Microsoft) phones is impressive!

Went to see John Renbourn and Wizz Jones last night. They both did solo sets, and each of those was followed by a session together. Each was excellent on his own, but when they played together, they really took off.

I went to see Bernie Marsden doing a benefit gig to raise funds for the restoration of the Morecambe Winter Gardens on Thursday night. It was excellent, if a little cold - one of the things needed for the restoration work is some heating! Lots of blues covers and a good dose of his own songs. The first gig in this venue for 35 years! Tonight, it was Emily Barker and Gill Sandell, also in Morecambe. Great gig. Message for Tim.......

Haha, nice one Chris - I love that lady lots and that's definitely her writing, bless her Hope you weren't disappointed? Unfortunately I won't be catching her current tour, which is a shame as for me she is best without a band. I was treated to a real gem this week, a small invite gig with John Murry who was on fine form. Over 2 hours and 25 songs, with plenty of very witty repartee in between. "John Murry débuts one of the many great new songs on his forthcoming album. This marathon Swiss Cottage show (25 songs) was the last date of a sell-out tour (principally of Ireland) that was filmed for a documentary about his extraordinary life"
John Murry - The Wrong ManFirst song in the Swiss Cottage on 1 April 2015.

Whoah, that's spooky - about 10 minutes ago, I was upstairs doing something and a thought popped into my head that Tim hadn't commented on that post. It must have been about the time you were posting. Weird!
