Mine will be the same as it looked like in 1983 Ha! And you've travelled a long route to get back there, eh?!

er, you know I said I was hoping to get a Dyna 10x5 next year ... well I have an AT33 PTGII on the way ... Looking forward to putting it through its paces. I also get to use my dinky little Lentek head amp which has been sitting in a draw. I'm really not sure where to place it though. Would there be any problem putting it on top of my phono stage?

Don't think so, Jules. It's not likely to emit a big magnetic field. Good choice of cart, by the way.

Thanks Martin. The AT cart has landed today ... Just waiting on a DIN to phono cable to hook up the Lentek to my phono and will then be able to put the cart through its paces ...

The Lentek isn't really good enough, speaking as someone who still has one, suitably updated. it was 'voiced' for the Entre cartridge, which started life as a soft but silky sounding cartridge. Even with a brand new battery, the Lentek sounds too brightly lit, even for me. In terms of clarity, it'll still annihilate a grubby old 10XV, which today is twice the price I feel it should be, bearing in mind its performance (Japanese commercial reasons have brought about the various marques of this cartridge, a fresh price being negotiated each time there's a change I'm told).

Teriffic. I would have preferred to have been setting up the cartridge with some kind of optimism but maybe the Lentek will surprise me.

In two sentences you appear to be conflating a head amp with a cartridge. Why is a 10x5 (I assume you mean the Dynavector cartridge) grubby?

Dave, you really do need to find a way of conveying your experiences with various bits of gear over the years without totally and utterly pissing on people's cornflakes. Please try to think what effect the likes of those words you have typed above will have on the expectant new owner of something they've spent their hard to come by cash on.

Well, I think Dave's talking rubbish anyway. It's just one person's view. I have a Lentek headamp and I think it is a great piece of kit. Dave likes pipe&slippers sounds, I prefer something more lively that conveys the excitement of the music, and for me the Lentek does that in spades. Don't worry Julian, I bet you'll love it.

Since moving to 300B SET amplification I'm pretty much there I think? Feel I've got the whole amp/speaker interaction thing done now, with that and good sources I think you've arrived.
Only change in 2016 is to complete my vinyl setup, the modded Gyro will be losing the technoarm and be replaced with an Audio Note 1 arm, and get it silver rewired by Audio Origami. Apparently the only difference between the 3 arms in the AN arm range is the silver rewiring as you go up the ladder and I've read the AN 3 arm is on a par (and bettered) a SME V, the "holy grail" arm for my Michell deck. Thinking is to get the base one, and get it silver rewired by J7 for cheaper.
If my numbers come up though, it'll be a Audio Origami PU7 instead, phoar!!! whatta arm!

Nice, I think a rewired AN1 arm (as I heard on Hugo's Thorens) or a PU7 will comprehensively outperform an SME V.

My AN arm might have been upgraded to full Arm3 status when you heard it. Still notably good value against an SME, though.

I'm sorry, I cannot spend ages typing and may come across as too short and sharp...
The 10XV as originally proposed is to me, a rather 'dirty' kind of sound and really not better than a DL110 at under half the price - they used to cost the same... I love the AT way of moving coil cartridge reproduction and feel the PTG is a fantastic choice.
The Lentek was designed to match the Entre cartridge - I was there at the time and saw Phil Swift regularly at work. The AT cartridge chosen should be wonderful, but I worry the balance will be a bit too much. Maybe not, but I know how people jump to conclusions, having done it myself so many times. Marco also confirmed when his was the best since sliced bread, that the battery needs to be changed regularly, 'cos although the head amp will work for many, many hours with a good battery, the best seems to be when the battery is new. I can't look it up, but there must be a record of Marco's posts on the subject on AOS.
Jerry, I feel there's a difference between brightly lit products for the sake of it and 'lively' in my experience. None of my amps are 'pipe and slippers' and the IMF Compact mk1's I love so much definitely aren't (rather different balance to the Super Compact as per the pair that Grant refurbished, which is more like Macca's TLS50's). The LS5/9's are in cold storage until I find out what I can do with them and the BC2's are anything but smooth and bland, believe me, as they're rather different to BC1's in balance and bass reproduction. As for sources, it's digital mainly and I fight to get vinyl to sound as neutral, rather than dull.
Anyway, apologies to Julesd68. I do try to help (long term) and really don't wish to hinder.

Sigh. Dave's fooking up TAS, the Wam's down for maintenance/revamp of some sort, and AOS is lost in subjective/objective pointless circular arguments. I may have to turn the 'puter off and get myself a life!

All platters are circular, so it's logical that the arguments follow the same form.

I love the AT way of moving coil cartridge reproduction and feel the PTG is a fantastic choice. The Dynavector 10x5 seems to be a direct descendent of the Ultimo, which I used to own. 'Dirty' or 'grubby' are not characteristics of that cartridge, more like 'refined' and somewhat lacking in deep bass welly. I don't know the DL110 but I used to have a DL160 and that was an incredibly good cartridge, but like other brands went up in price significantly before it was withdrawn. It seems to have happened across the board, Ortofon too. The AT33PTG was in a different class and is a very good all-rounder but again has gone up in price since I bought mine.

Dirty - grubby.
He must have dropped his 10x5 in the compost heap before playing. It sounds nothing like that.
I've had enough. Where the Ignore button? - Ah, it's called Block on TAS - done!
