Bit perfect playback in a marketing concept and used by IT 'wizards' claiming their is no difference in playback quality simply as 1's are 1's and 0's are 0's. Why not consider if valves can fully exploit the higher resolutions the higher resolution formats? Eh?

Sorry but this statement does not seem to make any sense what connection are you trying to achieve? Hi nrb I use either iTunes or spotify to play music from my laptop, I also have the app downloaded on my iPad so I'm able to control my laptop from my 'Hifi chair' , much like a remote control would control your TV from the couch in the living room. Tidal doesn't seem to have that facility, not that I can see so far. Not sure if you have tried Roon yet but it might be worth it as it now has an iPad App ( iPad Air 1 & 2) and (iPad Mini 2 & 3) only. Looks at your local music and tightly integrates with Tidal as well, free trial for 2 weeks - might be the ideal answer for you as it is for me.

Used to use Jriver with Jplay on a 2 PC setup. Got to be way too much faff and Jriver nowadays has become a bit bloated for my uses. Still use it to tag my tunes, convert formats and the like. Always was a bit of a swiss army knife for audio, and its not been beaten, though use DbPoweramp for ripping as rips seem to sound a bit better than Jriver. So back to Squeezebox for me. First SB3 in 2006...had a couple of Touches over the years now use the Transporter purely as a digital transport via XLR into my Young Dac. Running a trial of Roon and absolutely love it, discovered music in the murky depths of my collection I'd never have listened to! Worth paying for in my book even just for the linking and metadata as it makes the experience so much better, especially using Ipad as a remote, its a great way to enjoy your music. Interestingly (like LMS) I've found the computer you run Roon from can have an impact on sound? Initially installed the application on my PC, but tried the Server version of the software (no interface) and it sounds better. The usual PC based audio tweaks can apply here, no bloated version of Windows running lots of background processes...etc. For my own setup, have RoonServer running headless on optimised Windows Server 2012R2, with Audiophile Optimizer software installed.
