Does anyone have Tidal running on a Raspberry Pi?

As part of which OS or runnable image, Greg? I don't think it works on Volumio.

Tidal can run on LMS. LMS needs to be pointed at an additional repository to do it. All you need to do with a RasPi is run it as a LMS client. Squeezelite would do.
You'd also need to host LMS on another device. I've heard of some having success running both server and client on the same device.

Tidal works very well on the touch through ickstream, the touch beats the pi in all areas for me so I have no desire to fanny about personally with it.

It uses Squeezepad to manage Tidal which is sourced through ickStream (I have also tried Qobuz and Deazer) so I suspect the OS is either Squeezelite or ickStream (is ickStream an OS?). As I don't really know, I will check with Nick and report back.

The full fat Tidal subscription is £20 a month - is that correct?

I prefer the sound through the Pi compared to Touch and as said previously, is as good as or better than some very expensive commercial products. All IMHO of course.

The full fat Tidal subscription is £20 a month - is that correct? No, it's £19.99 Seems to to me good value if you balance the cost against what you might pay for buying physical CD albums over a month. Vinyl naturally is a completely different consideration.

No, TIDAL hirez doesn't cost me £19.99 a month - it saves me £30.01 a month! I used to buy CDs with a strict monthly nett budget of £50 - I no longer buy CDs!

I'm still not convinced of the economics of this business. I haven't sat down and worked it out but I suspect that it actually isn't cheaper in many cases. You are looking at it on a monthly basis, and that seems reasonable value. But this doesn't take into account that you are effectively paying for each play of every album that you listen to for the rest of your life (assuming of course that you stick with it). If you only listen to each album once or twice, then yes, it must be good value. However, if you tend to play things several times, it's going to look rather different.

Well, I tend to look at things simpl(isticall)y - in purely cash terms I used to pay £50 a month for my music, I now pay £20 and have instant access to a much larger catalogue of music.

It's that access to a huge catalogue which attracts me. This type of thing is the best way I know to find new music, but then when I find something I like, I tend to buy it. That's why I'm not too fussed about the extra resolution that Tidal offers over Spotify and why a tenner seems about right, but twenty feels like too much.

Fair enough, I listen to a lot of new music. Especially being a classical fan where there are often multiple versions of the same piece that may be of interest.
I guess for those who are happy with what is already on their shelves with a much smaller proportion of new music the Tidal live streaming model makes much less sense and the financial model you cited applies. And for folk like you who just want to sample before buying physical media, doubling the price for hirez isnt sensible either.

Your stance here is just like the one you have with your gear! (and that's great by the way). You find the excitement in the chase, while enjoy the chase, but I relish the kill!!
