I must admit I am a bit shocked by how many people are using computer audio to some degree in their systems

I must admit I am a bit shocked by how many people are using computer audio to some degree in their systems I'm not! I bought my first Squeezebox in 2007, and it was apparent to me then that it was going to be the way things would be in some shape or form. What has surprised me is the number of folk that were wedded to the old ways of doing things and their resistance to change - OK, if you're going to play vinyl records then you have to use a record player, and the same applies to any proprietary format, but once you get the stuff onto digital storage then the world is your lobster ..... I stopped playing CDs in a CD player in real time in 2007

Totally blown away by the music catalogue on TIDAL - and sounds a tad better than my CD player, too. Sorted. Wow Jerry, that is some statement. I may dabble with TIDAL at some point based on what you've said about it.

Certain listening vinyl only, then mainly cd or other digital playback.

I broke through my personal pain barrier with a Squeezebox Touch. Now I use an Oppo BD103 player with an HD connected, as it gives me access to all formats of discs, streaming, Youtube and sound quality equal to the best I've personally achieved with a dedicated CD player, all in one unit and without the computer faff. I still lust after Martin's extremely analogue Ayre player though...
My development with streaming music is curtailed every time I disconnect the internet from the Oppo, which I do for serious music sessions, and hear the not insignificant jump in quality.

Mainly stream from Spotify via my Sonos, or stream FLAC from the NAS through it. Listen to vinyl when I can have an hour sitting in peace and quiet. About to try and build Raspberry pi based streamer. At work I listen to spotify via iPad or nexus 5. I guess computer based music is my main listening medium.

I'm a recent convert to streamed music through my RPi with high berry into a Caiman II (latest version) into a passive pre followed by valve power amp to speakers. Another vote from me for services from Tidal apart from their annoying habit of showing an album in there index but when you click on it it says 'no content'. Maybe Tidal intends to add content at a later date........I hope so.
Streaming with Tidal in my system sounds far better compared to any CDP I have used to date. All my CD's have been ripped in flac to my PC which can then feed the RPi through management from Squeezepad loaded on my iPad. I retain my Garrard 401 sunk into a heavy Welsh Blue Slate (Snowdonia....the densest Slate in the world) with Audiomods arm and Ortofon KB because I have hundreds of albums not yet downloaded on streaming services and because of the unique sound quality a good vinyl source brings.
I also listen to radio through Squeezepad, so source wise, all I now need is the RPi system (very small in the rack) and my TT. I can now remove loads of components from the rack, infact replace the rack with a support much smaller which pleases the wife. If it wasn't for the valve amp needing a stand for ventilation, the whole thing could go into my TV support unit.
As for streaming components, my advice is not to get drawn into the hype coming from the main manufacturers. A few weeks ago I attended a retailers high end demo day and listened to two streaming devises, one at £15,000 and another at £6,000. The £6,000 one sounded much better than the more expensive one but on reflection, neither of them offered me anything better than my £80 RPi set up. If you go RPi, there's no fancy looking boxes etc, ( you can always box it in a fancy chassis if you wish) but it offers you all you need for high end streamed music. Any suggestion otherwise is a con. Believe your ears and not what the industry people with their vested snake oil interest like to tell you.
