It's the ones who flounce off and then come back that make me giggle. If you're going to go, then go! Maybe we should have a thread "why do people return to forums they have left"? It's probably a more interesting topic but I'd still rather talk about hifi and music than other forums and other people's comings and goings. People take forums and their politics far too seriously, I feel.

Whatever happened to "What goes on elsewhere does not concern us. We have asked that all baggage be left at the door, and that goes for us too." guys? Forum rulesSeems to me like it's getting a bit specific whereas the O.P.s thread title is a more general in nature. Perhaps someone would like to start a thread entitled " Why HFS members are all Nazis and Richard Dunn is The Antichrist?" MOD: no more please, this is not aimed at just you but everyone.

But with respect, Slinger hasn't been booted from anywhere and from everything I've seen of him, is a decent bloke. Same goes for other members here who are members of forums many have left or avoid. There are idiots and nutters everywhere, but that doesn't mean that everyone on a forum is that way inclined. I know it's easy to generalise and I'm probably as guilty as anyone but I don't want to see people who have always behaved decently being labelled unfairly. I do realise you say all of its "hard core" members but that could be construed as regulars or mods. Slinger is both so I just wanted to clarify that.

Maybe everyone likes to rubber-neck a train crash. Maybe there isn't quite yet the volume of posts on other threads and we potter in to a thread we can relate to. I'm sure it will fade to the bottom of the recent posts thread before long

The premise in the o/p question is valid and worthy of discussion - some members have left this forum, too. It has gone a bit specific and I did ask that we restrain ourselves from naming names. No more of that now please, further specific forums and names will be removed. Even Slinger's post has been moderated

I appreciate the point, and (at the risk of being accused of back-slapping) think you have the balance right. I considered substituting "the forum owner" and "the brand owned by the forum owner" but felt it would have been disingenuous and trite. ChrisB had earlier said he wasn't prohibited from mentioning a forum name, and sometimes it can all get a bit trite and silly on forums. It does no harm to state facts (my reasons for leaving) directly. No need to dwell on them

No harm to state the name of a forum- we all know they exist. However in that case, I don't think the forum in question and it's members/owner were being attacked.

Just look at what is being posted at < (moderation) some forums > to understand why it would only be right to leave a forum and never go back. MODERATION: This time it is directed at you - Martin already asked twice for an end to this type of post.

Surely everyone knows that the possessive form of 'it' does not require an apostrophe? Anyway, as any fule kno, there's about half a dozen people who keep getting banned, starting their own forums, and subsequently banning everyone they fall out with, whilst the rest of us gaze in slack-jawed wonder at the amount of righteous indignation some people are capable of. As some wag said of academic disputes: the debates are heated because the stakes are so low.

Yes, I was talking about the "hard core" and Slinger is not part of that. They are few, you can count them on one hand and by now, I think everybody knows who they are and what levels tripe they output. But I still don't understand why Slinger would want to help them propagate it ?? I wouldn't want to be associated in any form with that lot. To get back to the OP's question. Just look at what is being posted at hfs to understand why it would only be right to leave a forum and never go back. Always good to keep referring to something one doesn't want to be associated with. In my case, it would be Gilbert and Sullivan, and Gilbert O'Sullivan.

Good Lord. Did you mention righteous indignation? Sorry to be the cause of a blood boiling episode. Yes, I do know better than that. Mr Perrins, my English teacher would have whacked me across the back of the head with a copy of Henry IV, part 1 for that. What can I say? Riot and dishonour have stained my brow - I'll try harder next time.

My own particular childhood failing was to use the word 'me' instead of the word 'my' to denote ownership, as in 'I can't find me book, sir!'. Mr Grady, the terror of Sacred Heart Junior School, soon beat that error out of me.

It certainly seems to be an issue with many "fora" that one must be very thick skinned and ready and willing to get into a verbal fight if one dares to post at all. Yes: I find this true.

As to the lack of female members, it's a shame and something we would like to correct, if that's possible. As a female, I have to say I was a little nervous when I first came on here. I was strongly quizzed about a couple of things I knew nothing about. I guess it's all relative. Anyway I weathered the storm due to two members sending me lovely personal messages of encouragement, thank you gents, you know who you are.

I'd still rather talk about hifi and music than other forums and other people's comings and goings. People take forums and their politics far too seriously, I feel. Spot on!
