Although Jammy has bought his I just wanted to add. I use an NVA AP10H with now HD800, previously HD600. I changed the HD800 cable to a Cardas and have been amazed at how the combination has gone from a thin sounding listen to a most pleasing richness combined with silky mid and treble. The HD800 benefit from the power of the AP10H but the cable change amazed me. Another combination for those looking to consider. I would be interested in a 2nd opinion with regards to how the Capella compares to the AP10H. If you have any time and are willing to play about with the Capella versus the AP10H, PM me as once discussed on another forum. I am not interested in checking out your Capella. I wouldn't be up for the time involved and I have never fancied myself as a reviewer. Quite happy with the AP10H too having compared it to a cheap and cheerful USB DAC, in fact I used the cheap and cheerful to compare the HD800 to my existing phones before buying them. Noted that one or two here will be providing verdicts so you should get your favourable comments. I see no need for PMing, you ask publicly I reply publicly. My post was to encourage HD800 choice, I had seen reviews giving cold, analytical as their main characteristics. The amp brought energy to the sound and the cable transformed the harsh edges from the sound.

As previously stated I feel my new cans would benefit from a better amp than either the AP10h or Capella. And thus have decided to opt for a NVA special. As soon as it arrives i will post my findings and a few pics.

As I mentioned before, I was interested in a personal opinion as a fellow owner of the HD800 and strait talker who could give me a trusted idea of the item, warts and all. Reviews? I have had loads of them on the AoS forum, but not necessarily clear enough for me to make sense of the good and bad points of my design. My apologies if you understood my request to mean taking the time to writing an on-line review. I don't and have never asked anyone to do such a thing in all my years of doing business. Each and every review that owners of my products have penned on a forum was done out of their own free will. By the way, favourable comments aren't necessarily helpful. I put my trust far more in fewer unfavourable comments, since they tend to indicate that the person noticed some bad points that might need to be addressed, rather than looking for good ones that everyone else is already aware of. But point taken that you are not interested and haven't got the time. No offence taken at this end, and sorry if I accidentally mixed you up with someone else on AoS who I had exchanged PMs with and though I was following up on as I had promised then. With all these very similar handles across forums, it is easy for me to mix up characters and personalities, and incorrectly identify people.

Alan S, Interested in the 800s. Moved from 650s-700s. Wondering if more is to be got from upgrading? Also wondering how much of a difference upgrading the standard cable makes as its an option I could take with the 700s?

Alan S, Interested in the 800s. Moved from 650s-700s. Wondering if more is to be got from upgrading? Also wondering how much of a difference upgrading the standard cable makes as its an option I could take with the 700s? tony I have read but cannot quote or link to comments/reviews that put the HD700 only slightly below the HD800. It was a forum discussion and I guess I had used Google to find. I found the HD600 -> HD800 a large difference and it took me a while to loose the comfort of the HD600's rich lower registers. I know you had 650 not 600 and they are of a similar "family" to 700/800. With regard to cable the amazing change may have been partially due to the phones themselves burning in but the change was within hours of fitting the Cardas. As I indicated to Mr Beresford I am not up for swapping things around (now they are so enjoyable) so am loath to put the original Sennheiser cable back and determine how much change the cable made. Hope the burble contains something

Spot on Alan. Always good to get an actual owners perspective.
I kept my 650s, the 700s are quite special. I reckon both needed about 200 hours to settle down. The 800s are on my wish list.

That's a serious looking bit of kit (even if it is the arse end). I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Well only one review so far..... Midnight and it pisses on an AP10, the lower registers just have so much power and control. Mozart Piano Concertos have always sounded great through the AP10 but I never realised how much bowed double bass there was or how the lower keys on the piano made the whole piano body vibrate I don't even get this from big speakers. The timing and speed of the fingering is superb, it is as though Mikhail Pletnev has had an adrenalin transplant. Sod it! I will have to build myself one. Well I geuss he would say that would'nt he....

Yes Martin, as far as im aware this rig is for driving headphones. Although with the size of the two PSU's used it would probably drive a pair of Bricks. !!!

Do you know anything about the circuit, class it's running in, etc? It does look rigged for power amp duties so should control phones like a bastard.

Nope, sorry Martin I know SFA about audio circuitry....Being a sparky, I only supply the juice to em...!!! You will have to ask Richard, or better still join HS or reinstate him here once again. As for control....AM of MF once said "There is simply no substitute for headroom"
