First results are pretty reasonable  Being part numpty and trying to sort out the boss and her damned PC files at the same time gave me a comparison that needs revisiting. Then there's warm up to consider |

A Coherent pre - interesting!
Is it a prototype you are trialling?
If I remember correctly you have an all-in-one TAD CD/DAC/Pre - are you basically still using that for its CD and DAC?

Coherent LM1 Pre Amplifier in black, what else !
Rear panel with 8 inputs and 2 outputs.
Current set up
Based on a Bel Canto PRe2P chassis and hugely reworked by Tony in his workshop. About 10% of the original left.
Heard an earlier version a few months ago and was impressed enough to want to hear it again.
Tony builds them one at a time with tweaks to the next one along as he finds a better component / way to manufacture.
Played the existing system and then plugged in the LM1.
Set up problems with volume (which I have now mostly sorted) so comparisons difficult, however the clarity seemed a big step up.
Going through the well known album playlist and comparing to what I heard a couple of weeks back.
Sounds good. Occasional harshness which I assume is down to the components settling in.
Tony told me it will improve a lot when settling in.

Description perhaps "limited production" This was one of 2, 3 or 4. Perhaps up to 10 are out there. Tony has one to demo and takes one out for punters to hear Yes, TAD to TAD as you say. Defies my logic to *add* something into a chain and make the sound better. TAD CD/DAC is set to max output for the LM1 which also seems counter intuitive. |

Update on the Coherent LM1 in the system after a few more albums
More detail, lovely deep full bass, breadth, very musical relaxed sound
Wondering if the previous harshness on 2 or 3 albums could be more detail from a not so good recording
Peaking at 68db which is on the quiet side for me yet the detail and total amount of music being delivered is rather good
Bent - Programmed to love giving a superb sound
The sound heard in adjacent rooms is clearer as well. A good indicator of quality sound
The 'other room effect'
I'll finish the album playlist over the weekend and A / B the system with and without the LM1

Hadn't occurred to me to swap out the D-1000.
If I go for the Pre I'd keep the rest as is
