Listening to LPs - shock horror Couple of thoughts. There may be something to the touch and feel of the vinyl and the kit. There is a 12" thing you can touch and look at, see words you can read too ! Could do with a remote to lift the arm at the end of the track. Come to think of it I could do with a remote to go and find the LP, put it on the turntable, brush, put weight on, place cartridge on LP. All very carefully of course. A servant perhaps Had never given any serious thought to the actions and attractions of grabbing the LP and putting it on as spoken of by some LP enthusiasts, CD enthusiasts even. There is something there, or do I need to get out more.... The pleasure of listening to the music not available anywhere else for the first time in a long time may be messing with my brain of course. Took me while to get working, connecting up multiple cables, 3 mains leads 3 interconnects then finding there was nothing. Walked away and did other things - often a help Turned off the AD converter with everything else on in case it wanted to be last Worked - without any outside help ! Is less than a tenner VFM ? - absolutely. Is this a good quick fix for converting Analogue to Digital ? - absolutely. Good test to see if you want to play LPs or other analogue inputs through your digital amp ? - 100% Sound quality ? At least adequate. Negative expectation. Wasn't expecting miracles. Need to compare the AD's coax and Toslink outputs to the TAD. Add RDC cones or Black Ravioli under the vinyl section and AD box LP to CD comparison to see what differences are there Reel to reel comparisons can be done, but there is music on tape that is not available, in 2019 anyway

Jan Hammer - Oh Yeah! used to compare TAD CD to Technics SL1210 via Vida phono stage and cheapo noname AD converter
Fair result for the AD As expected the TAD CD integrated with own Pre is by far the best. SL1210 using Yannis interconnects to Vida, Yannis to AD, supplied wall wart supplying power to AD, Mark Grant Coax or cheap Toslink to TAD as Pre
Difference between the Coax and Toslink close with the Toslink nudging it I think, but very close.
Good news as the AD is somewhere in the right area. Lacks detail, but muffled, not as dynamic I had a horrid feeling it would be really bad to listen to, perhaps unlistenable
Supports required for the Vida, PSU, Technics PSU and AD to help the 1210's performance
Good result shows I can listen to vinyl via this box and gives me the opportunity to play around at vinyl and tape decks to work out if I want to use them long term and look at a better AD solution.

Previously listening on the kitchen system

Much more revealed now. Separation, detail. More music !

Time to compare the AD converter outputs and improve the LP front end.
Both Toslink and Coax connected from the AD to the TAD.
Swapped back and forth a few times to be sure
Toslink wins. Clearer, touch more detail. Slightly nicer sound. Bit of a pain as Toslink was the TV input.
Supports:
The AD box is small, about 40mm square and light so it had to be Black Ravioli Mk1 pad Bigger step up in sound quality than I was expecting. BR Mk1s hardly leading edge
Next RDC cones (only, no bases) under Vida Phono Pre, Vida PSU, Technics PSU Another step up in sound quality that underlines what ridiculous VFM the RDC cones are.
Coming soon - another CD v's LP comparison The CD must win but by how much.....

It's great that a cheapo ADC can get your analogue equipment working so well again.

It's great that a cheapo ADC can get your analogue equipment working so well again. Insane that less than a tenner connects me up and delivers so well. This is only the start to see how it all works for me now Will grab some more LPs not available elsewhere and also a comparison to CD for interest

Back on the playlist with Sonny Landreth and the wonderful, live Grant Street
Another thin layer has been stripped away. More clarity and 'in the room' presence.
Don't think there have been any kit, accessory or other changes except the vinyl set up on the adjacent rack which surely can't change anything *Still* settling in ?

Sound quality has definitely taken a step up Very clear on Colosseum - Valentyne Suite
Even greater separation and clarity in midrange, especially vocals, some bass I swear wasn't there before on Bajofondo Supervielle
Can't see I have done anything significant to kit or room
Vinyl set up was disconnected. Now ready to roll on RDC cones

Every now and again an album comes along that makes you stop dead with the amount of detail, or other of course Thanks to old whatsisface John I discovered Derek Trucks Just playing the amount of craft that went into this album is amazing. Thanks to the system for bringing it out

They have done some truly excellent stuff along with so so tracks. My favourite album of theirs is Songlines, that is before all are played on the current set up. If you like them enough for a CD or two Original Album Classics is a great buy
