I'm behind the times, but... Steve Broughton (brother of Edgar) who played the drums with the Edgar Broughton Band and on Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, has died, aged 72, his brother Edgar has confirmed on social media. OBITI saw him as a part of Roy Harper's " Heavy Friends" back in 1974, in what was probably the oddest lineup I've ever encountered at a gig. It was a freebee in London's Hyde Park, and as well as Roy Harper it featured Julie Felix, Toots and The Maytals, Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers, Kokomo, and headlining was ex-Byrd, Roger McGuinn playing a perspex guitar with lights inside it. Shame it was daytime.  Roy's other " Heavy Friends," by the way, were John Paul Jones, and David Gilmour. |
