"The Accountant" - who knew double-entry bookkeeping could be so violent!

The first Assault on Precinct 13 (not seen the remake)
Brilliant film
Very little noise as most guns and rifles were silenced. Made it even more effective with tiny noises and people dropping dead

The remake wasn't bad, and it starred Laurence Fishburne, but the original was far more atmospheric. I bet Martin's speakers would like the theme too...

The main thing about the original was the lighting. Half the time you had no idea what was going on. Added to the suspense. Combine with the silenced guns and rifles and it was hell

Agreed, it's a minor classic. Talking of which, a similarly atmospheric film and a great favourite of mine is The Warriors.

That's a great listen. I'd forgotten a few, especially James Herbert's The Fog. Wonderfully atmospheric.

Listening to The Thing gives me the shivers even without seeing the film.

Only finally saw The Thing this year. Purchased it as well. It's so perfect to have it on on certain winter days. It's a shocker still. Cast, effects, soundtrack, atmosphere it all comes together. Holds up as well or close to The Shining imo.

It's weird but I remembered watching it years ago and being totally gripped by it, so I watched it again this year and was a bit disappointed.
I've got The Shining on my Amazon watchlist, I'm pretty confident I won't be disappointed by that too ...

Oh dear. What do you get if you cross the director of Independence Day with World War 2?
The answer is a shockingly bad looking film. Check out this trailer for Midway. A crucial Naval battle reduced to a mere cartoon, with some of the most unconvincing VFX I have seen for some time. Looks like it was done by a video game producer on a Mac in his bedroom. What a palaver - more cheese than the Annual Swiss Cheesemakers Convention.

Do you long to go back to the 70's? Do you miss the casual sexism, rampant homophobia, proper villains and slags? Would you enjoy watching The Professionals and The Sweeney conveniently rolled into one dirty, gritty film? If the answer is yes, you need to see 'Blitz' with the legend that is Jason Statham. This has it all - psychotic cop killers, dodgy coppers, tyre screeches, jumping down stairs, hookers, mindless violence, shooters, grasses, drugs, boozers ... It even has the colour sucked out of it to transport you to gritty 70s London.

It's set in present day, but the style is a homage to the 70's if you get my drift ...

Blitz is a typical Jason Statham style movie, I love it.
