Incredibly moving, very humbling and desperately sad in places knowing the world has lost another truly remarkable human being.

That Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence theme is so instantly recognisable.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de GuerreWe really liked this Not perfect but much better than the 6.3 it has on on Imdb We're Guy Ritchie fans so easily persuaded to watch. Give it a go Yes enjoyed this a lot last night. It's not like the story is anything new but the direction and script keep it bobbing along very nicely. I actually thought Hugh Grant was most entertaining!

I saw EO last night - I was a bit indifferent about watching a film about a donkey, but I couldn't have been more wrong and found it worthy of it's Jury Prize win at Cannes. A very thought provoking story, that's more about humanity than a donkey. Stunning cinematography and an extremely good score, with much akin to a Jonny Greenwood film score.
I thought it really rather good and merits a place on my best watched of 2023 so far.

Indeed, Sir!
With a lesser actor the film could have been rather routine but his performance really makes the film. Very efficiently directed too and nice to see Colin Salmon cast in it ...

"Nobody" is a superior action film for those who enjoy skilfully choreographed body count. It has a whiff of John Wick about it, with the excellent Bob Odenkirk playing a family man taking on the Russian mob. Cue mayhem. Watching it. It's an interestingly different film, a thousand times better than the mindless John Wick dreck.

It really needs a cinema Martin, which is probably too late now, but it's still a really good film despite the clumsy handling of Blanchett's character regarding Alsop, but we've discussed that.
I think you'll get a lot from it, a must see for classical music fans especially Berliner fans. Blanchett did deserve more credit for her performance IMO and I can't help wondering if it was tainted by the controversy? I'll be interested in your thoughts when you've seen it.

I'm really annoyed with myself for missing it at the cinema. I've been waiting for it to be available on Amazon Prime at a sensible price and just seen it's now "just" 4.99 so will most likely watch it tonight.

I'm going for a second viewing of Tar tonight and will then open a discussion on it in the classical section. MartinT - is it on your watchlist? I'll wait till you have seen it if so to avoid any spoilers etc

I enjoyed the quality of it, the performances and way it was shot. 'Enjoy' would be the wrong word overall, 'admire' might be a better one. It's a very serious film.

. . . It's a very serious film. Most definitely. I'm glad I watched it a second time tonight, Tim. Very rare for me to do this but was certainly worth it and picked up on a few important things I had missed. Compelling performance from Cate Blanchett.

I'm very Interested to go see Beau Is Afraid. The new Ari Aster film. Starring Joaquin Phoenix.
But showtimes are at 5pm the latest. No thanks.
Has anybody seen the film yet? The reviews are yet again suggesting more Ari Aster greatness.
