Series 3 of Peaky Blinders started last night and already enjoying it… typical violent start but if you can ignore that you'll get on quite nicely with it I'd suspect.

Blimey, how do you cope with all the excellent Scandinavian drama, then?

Well, Slasher is living up to it's name already. We enjoyed the first episode and we'll certainly watch the second. Magicians is either subversively taking the mickey out of the 'Harry Potter' genre, or it actually is dumb and cliched teen-fodder. We can't make our minds up yet.

I know the Marvel movies etc. are a bit 'Marmite' but for those that quite like Marmite I've just discovered that there's a new series starting tonight at 21:00 on Spike called Powers. Here's the write up...
Fantasy crime drama, based on the Marvel comic-book series. In a world where humans and super-humans co-exist. Christian Walker was once one of the world's coolest Powers, but having lost his abilities following a fight with another Power, he joins the L.A.P.D. Powers division as a detective dedicated to policing super-powered criminals. In the first episode, he and new partner Deena Pilgrim probe the death of the superhero Olympia, found in a hotel room. Sharlto Copley, Susan Heyward and Eddie Izzard star.

Hmm, My scores are. -Breaking bad - still the daddy. -Game of Thrones - off the scale good. -Vikings - Also off the scale. -Better call Saul 8/10. Quirky and of beat. Mike's the real star! -Banshee 7/10. Too much implausible violence, good sex scenes in earlier seasons at least. -Thicker than water 8/10 -Wallander the most recent 8/10 (Ok I'm biased as speak Swedish)
-Fargo. Enjoyed both eras 7/10.
-Cooked 7/10. Air 10/10:)
-The leftovers 7/10. So annoying yet involving. -The 100 6/10 Too many things that don't add up. Space dwellers who come to earth and can instantly ride horses, drive jeeps, shoot guns etc etc:) -Dark matter, more space romps with guns in space:) 7/10 for the girl costumes alone. -Continuum 6/10, nice cat suit romp. -Killjoys, 6/10. Nice lead female rest is pretty cack. Persons of interest - not even on the scale, so repetitive and bad bad

Thought Person of Interest slipped a bit but still great. I guessed what The Machine had done. Didn't see from there on though. (Vague for those who have not seen it yet) Series 5 in production. Apparently the last

Just watched the last episode of Line of Duty last night. Well, that was exhausting!
It's not that series 1 or 2 were lacking but this third drama has been for me of a standard against which all others should be measured. I found it an exceptional balance of character development, plot complexity, dialogue, action, tension, intrigue, twists.... building to a satisfying and rounded conclusion. It moved along like a book you can't put down.
I'm pleased to read that Jed Mercurio is willing to continue writing stories to this format for as long as the BBC and the audience want him to.
Most highly recommended, a definite 'don't miss' - because it doesn't.

We thoroughly enjoyed tonight's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" on BBC 1, Russell T Davies did a great job. The setting was updated, the language wasn't, thankfully. If you hate Shakespeare because you had to read "it" at school, give something like this a chance. I know the language can be challenging when read from a book, but hearing it spoken in conjunction with seeing it acted out is a completely different experience, it really does flow most of the time.
There were loads of familiar faces, and some not so familiar who perhaps should be. Maxine Peake was a beautifully slutty Titania, Nonso Anozie was a scary/fun Oberon, and something I never thought I'd hear myself say, I thoroughly enjoyed Matt Lucas's bottom. Matt even managed to slip in a well known catch-phrase. Give it a go if you missed it, or decided against watching it for some reason. I know that some of Shakespeare's comedies can be a bit un-funny, but not this one. The music, by the rather good Murray Gold, was terrific too.

I'll try and make myself. Will be hard to overcome my aversion to Shakespeare. Almost didn't watch Ben Elton's Upstart Crow - which seems to reinforce a lot of my need to avoid Shakespeare That is quite good

Enjoying Marcella. We also liked her Anna Friel in Odyssey but they canned that early.
Along similar lines,
When is homeland back?
