"The Last of Us" on HBO. What a great series with great script and actors! I was sort of " on the fence" with that one. I know most of the people who have played the game seem to be head-over-heels in love with it, but I've never played the game. I must admit, I also find these post-apocalyptic survival things fairly repetetive and seen-it-all-before-ish in the main. It's one of those I'll probably watch in two or three years time (God willing) and wonder why I ignored it for so l.ong.

Well the second series of Wisting was fantastic. Two excellent stories split over the 8 eps. Good to see Carrie-Ann Moss back for the second story. We finished the series all too quickly and wanting more ...

The Consultant remained weird to the end of the series. Entertaining and batty. Looks like I'll be watching that one sooner, rather then later then. I've nearly finished Lockwood & Co, so that could be next in fact. Lockwood & Co., by the way, may be aimed at the " young adult" market, but it's definitely not for kids., it gets very creepy in places. I hope Netflix commission a second series.

The Consultant : Watched the first episode. It was just like all the hostile / planned takeovers I had to go through🙂 Ericsson Mobile Systems -> Aepona 🙄 truly shocking, at least they paid full redundancy for all my Ericsson years when I called time on their waste of time. Panasonic Mobile Europe -> Oblivian (actually had a sob version of the guy in the series) I reported him to HR and beyond. Got a huge payout to hush me😂 Symbian -> Nokia (Not too bad actually only a few Finnski psykopaatti) -> Microsoft (Windoze phone) -> Oblivian, again truly shocking 🙄. Payout was okay. Finally I was a consultant and helped a SW company get a huge EU contact it had no business winning. After that I saw the light and became my own boss. Still the redundancy payouts / hush money paid the mortgage off and funded early retirement😂

I've been on the other end of three BPR (Business Process Re-engineering, a delightful euphemism for shrinking the company) consultancy projects, being seconded into them by external companies (Andersen, Meritus and Cambridge Associates). It led to my lasting opinion that if you can't diagnose your own company's woes, you shouldn't be in charge. All three projects were characterised by not properly and impartially investigating the processes, missing important personnel who do their key jobs quietly and without fuss, generating wazzy, graphics-laden and empty presentations to wow the board members, recommending unworkable new processes and suggesting the wrong posts to make redundant, taking the money and running away before implementation. If I were running a company, I would NEVER call in consultants before admitting defeat and leaving.

Regrettably BPR is a practice that is far more accurately characterized as CYA and blame shifting to cover for the incompetence of senior management that is clearly seen by the rank and file below.

Knowing nothing I referred to various consultants while running my little print company Most knew a lot less than I did. Some were hopeless
Sid Joynson was the stand out exception

We watched Justified S1 E1 yesterday. We're way behind some of the times..
Ah seen him in Fargo S4.. Can't recall him from The Mandalorian though..
Justified; it was unjustifiably gun toting, and stereotypical 😂
We agreed to give it 2 more episodes.
I'm watching The Consultant on my own.. enjoying it!

We gave up on Justified after half way through season 2 I think. Just never kept us interested and thought the episodes a bit samey.

I've just finished s2 of Justified, and I'm looking forward to starting s3 tomorrow evening. I think the writing/dialogue is really excellent.

I thought "Sherwood" on BBC iPlayer was very well done.

I thought "Sherwood" on BBC iPlayer was very well done. I thought it was excellent, spealing as one who remembers the period that " set the scene" for the main storyline, very well. I didn't know the area, personally, but I knew the things that were happening up there at the time, between the government, the strikers the scabs, and the police, mostly due to my own union/political affiliations.

I do too, Paul. My sister was living just outside Nottingham at the time and I remember going past the picket lines when I went up to visit.

I've watched the first couple of episodes of Shadow & Bone (Netflix) and I'd say it was quite promising. It reminds me a little of Carnival Row in feel, but there are no "Pix" in this one, only humans, some of whom have "gifts" and are known as Grisha. One of the points in its favour is that it seems to be attempting to genuinely tell a story of three, rather than simply being a threadbare script with loads of special effects thrown at it. So far the SFX have been used sparingly, and to good effect, rather than just being McGuffins. The sub-plot (which may turn out to be more than simply that, I don't know yet) revolves around gangsters, club owners, and their associates, and is reminiscent of a stylised Weimar Republic, something Kurt Weil & Bertolt Brecht might have set to music. I'm half expecting Mackie Messer to turn up at any moment. Dean Lennox Kelly portrays a suitably nasty piece of work with a Scottish accent, named Pekka Rollins, who is almost a cartoon villain, but still human enough to seem genuinely evil at times. Obviously, those are all personal observations, and my attempt to not give away any of the plot(s) if possible. If you can imagine a melding of Carnival Row and Ripper Street with chunks of Penny Dreadful and His Dark Materials thrown in for good measure but unlike any of them individually ...I'd say give it a go. Rotten Tomatoes scores it 89% on the Tomatometer, and 89% on the Audience Score.

I've just read about a new show that has just gone into production, so very little is known about it at the moment, but the title, Bladerunner 2099, shows promise. I believe it's being made in association, at least, with Amazon Prime.
