Deutschland 89 up to the usual standards
On More4 or streaming on All4 - which shoves in more adverts than are reasonable
Think we could have seen it on Channel 4 or Prime but I was mislead by the "Series 1" - which I assumes was Deutschland 83

After a hiatus I've finally started on "Bosch" again, from series four. I thoroughly enjoyed the books, and when I first found it on Amazon I was prepared for some disappointments, but Titus Welliver makes a pretty good Harry Bosch.
The show was developed by Eric Ellis Overmyer, who has written and/or produced St. Elsewhere, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, The Wire, New Amsterdam, Treme, and The Man in the High Castle amongst others. That's what I'd call a decent pedigree. Michael Connolly, author of the Harry Bosch books, worked on the show as a writer and is also credited as "creator."
A few liberties are taken with the books; Series four, which I've just started, is based solely on book 6 in the series, Angels Flight, but series one for instance was based on The Concrete Blonde (Book 3), City of Bones (Book 8), and Echo Park (Book 12).
Connolly's next project is "The Lincoln Lawyer" for Netflix, based on his novels about criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller.
One "moan," about Bosch was that it was too slow moving, but that was an American moan. I think it's nicely paced, not full of car chases and shootouts, and has strong story lines and decent sub-plots.

Sounds promising though the lack of/ slight dip in car chases and explosions worries me a bit.

I've been watching Room 301 on BBC FOUR - Finnish noir, good without being exceptional.

I've started watching The Terror on BBC iPlayer. "Inspired by the true-life unexplained fate of the exploration vessels Erebus and Terror." I've only just clocked that The Terror was fictionalised by Dan Simmons and this drama is taken from it. NOW I understand why it's so well written and puts a real chill up your spine. Simmons, an American author, has written some absolute crackers, including Carrion Comfort that is by far the best horror novel I've ever read.

Holy crap. Really? There was a massive Simmons discussion in the 'Read Any Good Books Lately?' thread in which you certainly mentioned/praised Carrion Comfort.
So 'The Terror' season 1 is based on a novel by Simmons? Cool. It seems the following seasons are not based on his writing.
There are gripping moments in this between some of the finest actors working. And Adam Nagaitis as "Hickey" is strangely mesmerizing.

This Is Us is still holding my attention by widening its focus to our main couple during their childhood years.
It still has the capacity to surprise and leave cliff-hanger endings.

I don't know how I missed this last Sunday, but ITV broadcast 1 of 2 episodes (so far, there are 17 books) based on the Roy Grace novels by Peter James, which I devoured. John Simm stars as DS Roy Grace, so I've got high hopes for it. Russell Lewis, who created Endeavour, is the writer, and it's set (and was filmed) in Brighton. Episode 1 is on the ITV Hub, and there's no broadcast date for e2 yet. It clocks in at 105 minutes + ads.

Fancied something entertaining, fantasy, implusible even. Picked Snowpiercer lol, on Netflix. Sean Bean and pling pling wheelchair man from Breaking Bad are in it, among others. So the earth is trashed, a counter measure to global warming has left it at minus 118 ⁰C (semi-plausible), the super rich (responsive for trashing said earth), have built a train to travel on continuously around the earth, in absolute luxury (implausible), unfortunately for them, some scum class (the good guys), got on board at the last moment. Oh, there's a murder in club class, the only detective on board is in scum class! The lead female has implausible eyebrows! What could possibly go wrong?!😂 3 seasons of it!

The film was a little odd but fun... I'm sure it will be revealed, but why a train? It needs tracks, tracks need to be smooth and clear, could easily be damaged or sabotaged - it's unclear at the moment if there's anyone left outside to sabotage them though. How long will they have to be on the train. 100 years, 500 years, 1000 years? What fuel does the train use, certainly isn't a renewable🙂 Why don't the guards just shoot their way into scum class and throw them off the train? They would have perhaps, but now they need a real detective, who's negotiated their survival - for now. We've yet to meet Mr W (probably Sean) in his ivory train tower! So many unanswered questions.
