Hooked up Tony's valve monos with the Tissy passive pre. Expected them to be better if not as good as the Behringer solid state amp.
Didn't really get on with them to be honest, unexpected. Love the valve sound and valves go well with my Eddingdales, but something wasn't quite gelling.
Ah well, thanks to Tony for the chance to try them anyway.

Surprising, thought that would be a good combo. What pre were you using?

So did I Ali. Was using the Tisbury Audio passive pre of Tony's.
No harm done though, the Behringer is sounding quite good though missing the valve magic I'm sure Nicks 300B power amp will bring.

Could be the passive, an active pre might sound a lot better.

Tony thought that Stan B's Capella headphone amp used as a preamp really did the business, and having heard it have to say I don't disagree.
Hadn't thought of going down this road before, but as a stand in Pre to go with Nick's power amp I don't think I'd be disappointed.

Tony,
Have you tried these with a set of Proprius amps?

Had to google them...they look the business- but a bit salty price wise for my pocket money. I have a wee selection of amps that I havent tried yet, I have honestly been so happy with the various t amps Ive tried it never crossed my mind. Will get round to it when they come back from loan.

I recently heard my FH3s with the new Firebottle "AIR" power amp at a little bake off here in France. 100W of hybrid musicality. They sounded very nice, with a bit more space between the instruments and a lot more depth and slam to the bass. In my opinion it's a very good sounding amp, built by an enthusiast.

I heard it with the Firebottle KIN, and also direct from my Graham Slee Reflex M as the one that Alan had with him was a "one off" as it was fitted with a volume control.

Must be very good if the Firebottle is going to oust your monoblocks...

It was at Gordon's gaff. I will try it at home before making any rash decisions.
