Don't think so, it was my system, and harsh is not how I would describe it., and if that was the case, the copper plugs were hiding it, as the harshness was gone with copper in use.

Just a wee update to the F3s progress. They really have started opening up nicely. The bass performance has surpassed my statics without losing anything. I have found that impedance matching my amps has been a bit hit and miss-really worth persevering with to achieve a sweet spot. Steve had advised me they would go through stages were the sonic presentation would swing quite noticeably....as he described it "from trabant to Ferrari" He wasn't wrong.
They seem to pick up on all the subtleties that partnering equipment and interconnects exhibit when I listen to cans. Probably the best compliment I can pay to them is that I don't feel Im losing much listening to them as opposed to cans. Only my statics got near to what headphones do-the F3s seem to improve on that.

Yes they are very open and detailed sound with a bass they have no right to produce I think the drivers can take a very long time to break in. Glad it still enjoying them Tony

I REALLY like what I have heard at Steve's place. They are more transparent then my open baffles.

Yes they are that good, they can't reproduce the bass I get from my 15 inch drivers but the bass is bloody deep and full on, and the mid and top are just fantastic.

When I tried them in my place it forced me to upgrade my tweeters on my open baffles so that I could match the detail

Interesting what Steve has done
So far as I know he uses the same tech for the cabinets as his platforms
Could be a game changer for speaker design

Tony's putting a post up, took some pics etc.
Speakers sounding better than last time, opened up nicely. Bit of a TAmp fest, big highlight for me was running two MiniT's into Stan B's Capella headphone amp, acting as a pre.
Speakers grew a major set of balls, dynamic weighty and kicked like a mule!
Great day, heard Tony's high end cans which sounded great. Will need a preamp in the near future, never thought of Stans box as a pre...food for thought.

Uhm...sorry man. Tony not say? Sorry mate , one of us should have said . I'll take the blame . Somehow I've got it in my head that you'll be working on a weekday . I'll make sure you know the next time . Great day at Tony's as ever . The Frugals have indeed opened right up and now produce a huge and convincing soundstage with all the bass and detail which I would certainly ever need . More than once I was amazed at the wall of sound which was eminating from those little drivers and on quite a few occasions I was taken aback by the sheer palpability of what I was hearing . These are very very nice speakers. As Gary said all the amps used were of the T-amp variety and all sounded quite different . However , there wasn't one time where I said to myself that I didn't like something about any of the combinations. The Frugals sounded fantastic with all of the amps . As Gary has said my favourite was also the bi amped Mini Ts which produced a big powerful sound with a massive soundstage and I'm sure Stans Capella , used as a pre amp , played no small part in this . All in all a thoroughly informative and enjoyable day . I'm sure Tony will be along soon to give feedback on the day too

Ali, Tony loaned me your old valve Monoblocks and his Tissy passive pre to try. Also his Berhenger A500 integrated.
Plumbed the A500 in and listening just now, jeez it's good! The Eddingdales respond really well to some amp muscle up 'em. its summit daft like 125 watts at 8 ohms....
Trying the monos tommorow.

Sounds like a great day guys The Mini 1 when I tried one on its own did not have enough power for the speakers, but sounds like bi-amping with them has cured that issue.

It was the old Amptastic amps we were biamping with John . I had my single Mini -1 with me and it did sound pretty good . I'm thinking of buying another for biamping , however on the Amptastic site it says the Mini-1 can't be used for this purpose . Has anyone tried biamping the Mini-1 with success ? . I don't want to buy another if it can't be done .

Sounds like a good day was had gents. I'd have liked to try the Firebottle OTL on the Frugals ( I have it on loan at the moment) I bet that would be an amazing combo.
