Really nice speakers Tony, look forward to hearing them soon. Bit of a change looks wise in the man cave? Nice! John Martin is ready and waiting for next time... Speaker run in time? Had my Edingdale speakers for just over a year now and recently Brian and I both noticed that the speakers had really opened up. Can take a while, if they sound great just now your in for a treat as time goes on. Gary, How you fixed this Friday me and Brian have pencilled in a wee sesh, would appreciate another set of ears to optimise positioning- will get the cakes in!!!!

Had Brian and Gary across yesterday, always good to get another set of ears to help set things up. As it was only minor tweaks positioning wise let us really fine tune the sound. Gary let me try a number of new cables he has been working on, great fun and good company-very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

No worries, yer always welcome. Reckon the Frugels might tick a few of your boxes. Consensus was they sit a happy meduim between the spendors and statics with the openness of OBs. They will never do the the bass of Garys edingdales but in my room and set up they work really well. The only thing they want for is more hours!

Hey Tony, thanks for the good day at yours. Brian's the cable Guy...I do the Server stuff. His cables have so much value for money its unbelievable. I know we tried his latest and greatest up against something commercial coasting a helluva lot more and it was obviously better. the rewired MC5000's were better than the standard wired ones in your system, so I think you were spot on getting Brian to rewire yours. I know they get very close to a commercial set in my system costing significantly more. Just changing the MC5000 between amp and dac made a big improvement, fitting the rewired jobbies throughout your system will be fantastic. Speaking of which, was a pleasure to hear your new speakers. Much, MUCH prettier in the flesh - the photos don't do them justice. Fit 'n finish is really high end and I really like the new "vibe" in your listening room...especially with the fire on! Can say hand on heart that what I heard was the best sound I've heard in your room, I felt the Electricbeach Frugel3 combined the open top end of your Quad 63's with the low end gravitas and musicality of the Spendors. They seemed to bring out the best of both your other speakers in one package. What surprised me was the bass depth and drive? Only having looked at pictures online I had (mistakenly) assumed they would be needing a sub to provide that "drive" and groove to the music? Not at all, it was there in spades. I commented on how it sounded like a "wall of sound" compared to both your Quads and the Spendors..and how natural they were in that you didn't give a toss about any of the hifi attributes, just that John Martin was sounding great...can tell thats a Gibson guitar the guys playing and not a Strat..that kind of thing? To me, all that subtle stuff draws you into the music and makes you forget about the hifi, which really is the way it should be! Think we all commented on how they need some hours on them to make them really sing, with my Eddindales I've had them over a year and they are STILL surprising me with how they are opening up! The same "character" of improvment is there with the Vinyl too...so you have to go to the common denominator which is the speakers. Lots more speakery goodness to come for you I'm sure. Systems sounding top notch Tony.

Aye,spot on. Hope Brian doesnt think I took the piece out his mouth. The different wiring configuration is a palpable step up. I was relieved you guys were no bullshit honest with me. Im happy, listening to a lot of music and less hi-fi. Just good fun playing with different set ups and wires-great tunes!!! ( JM sounding majik)
If I grow a pair I might have to commission an idiot proof server, the computer side of things brings me out in a sweat!!!

I'm glad you are enjoying the cables. They are pretty good aren't they?
You really don't help with the comments on the Frugel3's. I want a pair even more now!

Yep , had a very pleasant afternoon at Tonys place listening to some nice tunes . I have to admit that I was quite taken with the Frugals . The pictures just don't do them justice , absolutely beautiful . I was also surprised by the size of the soundstage from such compact speakers . They also integrated beautifully , producing what I can only describe as a wall of sound. I'm not a ' bass - head ' so the bottom end produced by these speakers was perfect fo me , driving the music along beautifully and just ' being there ' when required. I must admit that I thought , with use , that these speakers have much more to give , so we'll see . Enjoy the cables Tony

Thanks Brian, looking forward to wiring up the whole shebang with the new configuration of the 5000s. The cabling Im using as a stopgap betweem pre and mono block is no slouch but not quite right. The silver wbt plugs just seem to introduce an element of treble harshness which wasn't present before=bit annoying to be honest.

My system in its current guise doesn't seem to like silver IC plugs. Brian let me try his cables with silver MS plugs...a wee bit fast and aggressive/focused on the the top and mid, losing warmth and soundstage.
The cables I plumbed in were happily in situ with 63s and Spendor SP1s.....BUT-what I wrote off as sibilance with vocal recordings was resolved with the different metallurgy. Synergy methinks!!!!

I recall at a previous board meeting comparing the same digi cable with copper and silver WBT's. The silver did indeed impart a slight harshness to the treble..

The silver did indeed impart a slight harshness to the treble.. More likely it revealed harshness elsewhere in the system.
