We haven't been using the full Hifi system in combination with the Sonos Beam and two Sonos rears doing surround for films - bit lazy! Yesterday evening we tested a new combination.
Sonos surround as usual + SH50s with only HF and MF amps on + Tapped horns subs.
This gave a really balanced mid and upper range for voice, the wide direction from the SH50s on mids and treble and of course the thunderous effects of the tapped horn subs.
With the LF on from the SH50s there's just too much going on, speech not as clear, seems to muddy with what's coming from the Sonos Beam (the beam is pretty good even on it's own mind you).
This is a poor mans surround system but it does shock and awe, and allows us to hear everything nicely.
Marie really enjoyed the film with the Sonos and SH50+TH augmentation.
Got the tennis guys over this evening to watch a match (French Open), having Onni wood/stonebaked Pizza first and Touch Tennis game on a court I've prepped in the garden.
Then tomorrow it's whole family movie night (was going to be Saturday but got delayed). It's really upped the usage / enjoyment from the room.

Here's the Hornresp SPL simulation Actual will play quite high. The big peak at 77Hz can be ignored as can be EQ'd out or rather in my case a steep high order crossover will kill it off before it's even started. Solid down to just below 20Hz👍 Going to weigh around 60kgs. So 2 man lift or 1 man slide / man handle onto porters trolley or attached equipment when🙂 Cutting list / optimized cutting schematic is now with my wood supplier for pricing. Will get them to cut it - less hassle.

Blimey, that goes deep!
Should be suitably trouser flapping.

Yes, the Lab 12 TH Sub is a bit of a beast! Been reading up about installations🙂 legacy.presonus.com/learn/technical-articles/configure-your-paWill want the SH50s on stands. Easiest - if they are under 60kgs each, is a pole stand. Can buy 2 for around £65 Inc the 35mm fitting for the underside of the speakers. Or could use 2 builders tressles with a board between for each SH50. I have 2 tressles already.. 2 more could be had for ~£50. They go to 1.3m, probably high enough.. Trouble is getting all that into one car! I've been listening more and more to just one tapped horn. It's a cleaner sound no doubt. The deep bass is totally non-directional at sub 60Hz freqs.. There is more detail audible from the SH50s too. I'll have to get the Victory Hall dimensions. Can then put them into a room mode calculator and see what's what. Forewarned is forearmed. Wonder if they have any PA speaker stands, or stable platforms or tables we could stack? Will have to find out.. Fun planning and plotting.

I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm, but we will be running other speakers intermittently during the day.
However, I'm really looking forward to hearing these.

Do we need to warn the locals ?

Do we need to warn the locals ? Lol. Only if I change my mind and build Jerichos! Yes, all 6 of the woofers are horn loaded and all are Synergi coherent.

Go on, build them, you know yo want to Hehe, that's a small Jericho too! Starts getting expensive on drivers! A big pair will be more than adequate for 12,000 people outside! As proved by the annual Danish Broadcaster concert they hold. They could probably shake the windows etc out of The Victory Hall! Cause near instant hearing damage with the right amps. We won't go there 😱 It's interesting that Danley still regards the SH50 as the Flagship of his range.. size isn't everything. I am considering adding a 2nd 12" LF driver to each of mine and 2 more 5" MF drivers too, just in case..🙂 they would be up to Danley spec then and just need tickling.. I measured the builders tressle stands I have. They go up to 140cm. HFs would then be around eye level for average height person. Ideally I'd like 160 or even 180. Most foldable tripod PA stands go to 180 or 190. But capacity max they do is 50kgs regular or 60kgs heavy duty! Guess they know what they are doing - week in week out too..

I definitely think you need to build a pair of Jericho’s.

"Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once"🙂 (He did it once for the entire time this time) A single cabinet J1-94 produces quality audio well beyond 1,000 feet from a true full range point source. Six 18-inch drivers, six 6-inch mid-range drivers and three 1.4-inch-high frequency drivers. That's 15 drivers seamlessly combining to provide more than 145 dB SPL. 🤔 Pass the Airwaves 🙂

A mere 7 drivers per SH50, and around 127dB continuous / 133dB peak SPL at 1m will have to do🙂
I suppose it's 8 drivers or more accurately 7.5, if you include the sub.

Musing over the changes I will make. It will be interesting when I fully load the SH50's from this or with the Vitavox S2 compression drivers as I now have to this full set of drivers (only 2 of and no passive XOs on mine..) Will I need to mod the XO's (PEQ filters in DSP pre / controller) much? I'll definitely re-measure to see. Should probably do it at higher SPL than my room can take (reflections). That means doing it outside in free air or somehow damping the room reflections very effectively between the horn exit and the measuring microphone. On my further readings I found this part of a thread which aims to explain the findings and effect of phase coherency. community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/182419-subconscious-auditory-effects-of-quasi-linear-phase-loudspeakers/&do=findComment&comment=2367719
