That's good to know John.
Right now I'm feeling it for getting the clock board and a bit of short range I2S point to point soldering:)
Pure I2S is the most direct way into Najda, as long as the clocking is sorted properly.
I have ChromeCast Audio as fall back and Rpi can take care of the few FLAC files I need to play.. I don't need WaveIO anymore.

Nice progress there, Steve. I'm looking forward to you getting the I2S connection up and running.

Kali reclocker now ordered from Allo Europe. These close up views showed me all I needed to see. Kali-reclocker
Whilst I'm waiting for it, I think Najda needs some further upgrade TLC. I'm planning on putting Rpi and Kali in an as sealed copper box as possible inside Najda. I will also seal of the exiting Najda PSU that now only supplied 12-0-12 side of the power to it. I will try powering the Rpi from Kali and each separately getting a dose of good 5vdc Linear. Going to be a fun DIY time this Christmas.

It should work out really well

That's sound engineering, Steve. Keep the noise sources shielded and the power lines clean. You might want to put ferrite beads over each power line to the Pi and Najda separately.

Yes I'm a ferrite fan..
First up I'll connect the Rpi up directly without the Kali reclocker.. At least one Diyaudio'er has done so.. Then I'll hear the upgrade the Kali gives, reusing the push on connectors I'll make the point to point short OFC at 4cm max.. The Kali pinout is just a pass through of the Rpi config so all good there.

One question for you Volumio experts, Does it matter what I2S target device I Choose? I couldn't see a pure I2S choice.

I'm not sure about that, one of the settings might work. You could ask Michelangelo on the Volumio forum, he's pretty quick to answer questions.

There's a setting for "Generic I2S DAC" you could try first. It might be a case of "suck-it-and-see" though if your DAC isn't listed.

I had a quick shifty round the Volumio forum and asked the question.. Looks like an interesting forum to get into.. I might even get Najda on the "DACs that work list", if all goes well It feels good to be in fiddling mode with enthusiasm and drive after many months / years of pretty much system stalemate.. This time it's pretty much the endless source of great music and music sharing that's the carrot, as well as good SQ. Of course my system would be a bottomless pocket tweakers paradise, with 5 sets of speaker cables, 5 sets of phono cables 5 amps etc. I can hear Martin licking his lips However all PSUs are already linear and the drivers / horns and amps are very much there to my satisfaction. Being the diy'er that I am, all my cables are homemade from good quality OFC copper, apart from the Cartridge millivolt stuff when I've found very pure Silver to be best.. I am going to explore cleaner router power shortly of course and perhaps make some Lan cables although cat5/6 etc is OFC copper I believe - is that right Martin?

I don't think ordinary Cat 5/6 is anything special, except for MeiCord.
As for endless tweaks, no I'm much more into leaving my system stable these days. Minimal changes, and small ones only, if I can.

Tweaking is fun and I admit to liking any inexpensive tweak that works well. However, I just love listening to music so I keep the tweaks limited to ones I think are worthwhile.

Did the wiring. Checked it all 3 times. Just the sound of silence.. Volumio is there and playing.
I suspect there is some Linux line needed in RPi to activate or enable?
I tried contacting Michaelangelo but you need to have posted a few to be able to send private messages it seems! I put up a couple of posts and a new member one - lets see.
Ah - posted 3 things, now my message to Michelangelo was sent..

Got it working this evening! Checked all my connections, all fine. Powered up, went to Spotify connected to Volumio, still have to increase the Volumio volume to max and then there was music. But of a mystery why I could not get it to work yesterday. Settings all the same..
Anyway, it sounds quite different to the Hifiberry. A thick veil, more like blackout curtain has been lifted..
Incredible detail and mid / bass power. Some soundstage change and a hint of high treble if not distortion or some artifacts that shouldn't be there.. (jitter?).
There's a little click / noise between tracks, not a pop though. I saw a Linux line to cure that somewhere or other.
Looking forward to Kali to see what improvements that brings..
Right now more listening needed.

Excellent! Are you able to lock the volume in settings, remove normalisation and any other stuff that alters the data? Sounds like great progress.

I thought I had locked the Vol in Volumio but it didn't take. Perhaps I didn't save? Got normalisation and anything that looks like it might degrade off. Have 24/96 very high on

I suspect you're starting to hear just how good Spotify can be.
The reclocker should take it up another level. Metronomic timing is infectious.

I'm getting what you are saying about the bass on Spotify now Martin!
Seismic / well more like epic really!
