No, no trap door. But there is fairly steep paddle staircase. Your speakers would have been a breeze for the removals guys size wise. Are they more than 100kgs each? It wasn't the 100kgs that stopped them but the 2.2m height.
I have been sorting the workshop today, first day doing that as house (cottage) has taken precedent. Once the workshop is sorted I can work 50% on work and 50% on my new tapped horns:)

Hi i am VERY impressed with your craftsman skills and your hifi journey, this is definitely not main stream I found your thread because I have just bought a Najda board, and I was looking for a linear psu, and then I found your great story. Could your share a link to where you bought the cabinet? And how did you draw the front and back of the cabinet? in AutoCad

Hehe, thanks guys:) Martinandersen, good choice on getting a Najda. You will not be disappointed. As for the case I got it from a firm in China, ebay purchase. I supplied them a life size tech drawing and they drilled the holes for the LEDs and push buttons for power, menu control etc. I made the slot for the LCD display. The front panel is 8mm thick so I had to grind off quite a bit from the inside to dish it enough for the display to sit flush. We moved from the house where you see all the pictures of the kit set up... Been busy for the past month with the house etc so not had time to even look at the hifi We now have a quirkier music loft, a bit longer and wider but over the garage/workshop so the roof slopes.
It's a new build and very well insulated and the garage / loft room is integral. This has given me a challenge as the tapped horns would not fit. The removal guys were excellent but could not physically get them into the room via the staircase landing! Today I set about modifying them. The first one is about half way to being able to frequency and response test in room. Basically they will be lopped in half and joined back to back. This will give a compact 110cm x 84cm x 42cm. Should pack the same punch. I listened to headphones last night, AKG 701's but I really missed the tapped horns scale and thunder, where called for. I will get them up the steep loft paddle stairs in two halves with final assembly and sealing in the room... Finishing and re-painting will be done up there too. With the bracing pieces I'd added for Scalford 2012 removed and the drivers out they are a whole 25kgs lighter!
The bracing or rather extra cladding was I am pretty sure, unnecessary.
Pics to follow when I'm next on the laptop;) Hope / trust it sounds ok.

I have used some hours on eBay trying to find a cabinet for najda. there is a billion cabinets but I can find one where the offer to drill the holes. Do you think that you can find some more information about the cabinet you bought?

Yeah, I'll have a trawl back through the eBay history& see. I am making another one at the moment and that is with the installation kit that uses quite a small front panel and can mean a smaller case. That one will be drilled to the Najda kit pattern...
I'll try and dig out the details.

Another job completed was to link a second wireless router to the master EE one that's under the stairs in the house. TalkTalk kindly did not want the Hauwei HG 633 2.4 & 5GHz one back when we cancelled. It's actually a pretty good wireless effort. The EE one isn't bad either though. Fortunately as the house was a new build there is cat 6 plumbed in to the garage loft and lounge Wasn't wired up source end and was to phone sockets remote end, but hay-ho... Together we now have excellent signal all over the house and garage which is a fair distance and several thick walls away. Now nmedium on my phone can talk to Jriver again... It took me a few goes at getting the right settings in both routers but well worth the effort. Both have the same SSID and pw and I set different channels so seamless roaming. Also helps that we are not close enough to any neighbours for their WiFi channels to compete - unlike the last place. Will be making new stands for the mid horns tomorrow...

Well I did not make the new stands after all. I can't remember what came up instead that took my attention away.
The redesign (butchering) of one tall tapped horn is complete and I have tested it in the room. At first I tried it firing out towards the edge of the room. I don't know why but it seemed in that way it might have given good separation once there were two. Mmeasured and sounded not so good:(. I turned it around to fire towards the centre of the room and tuned it up (applying necessary room correction). I also did the mid bass horn. Much better! Even with the mid horns lying on the floor it is coming together and gives me some hope and drive to get on with the other tapped horn and the mid horn stands. Mt god the Vitavox S2's on 400Hz horns sound good. You just plonk them in a room and they just give that effortless clarity, speed and crisp vocal that only they seem to be able to do. It's nice to hear them again after longer periods away.
Well the weekend is coming and I must get the rest sorted out.

Well it was slow and rather exasperating... Having re-built the other tapped horn straight and finding it sounded better, I modded the other one back to straight. So with a pair again I set about testing what correction and where to place them! First I had them firing inwards at the back as in my previous room. Nope, horrible room modes and huge suck out where the listening chair is! Really bad. 2m forward or back it was all boom boom boom! Even Marie could hear down in the kitchen things were not right. She has little interest in hifi but sings well (harmonies & choir stuff etc). So I turned them around and had them firing out into the room nearer the chair. Nope, no better! Now I was getting worried, and so was my back. They are not easy to shift about at the weight and move along the floor! I slept on the problem and was resolved today to try them in the only position left. Firing upwards into the room They still get corner loading from the floor, side wall and far wall. Moved one and measured the freq response. Hmmm, much cleaner and hardly any suck-out at 50Hz. I turned the other one around and measured - almost identical to the other side - this is a very symmetrical room so a mirror image and so it measured. I did very little correction and then held my breath and listened..... Nothing short of a revelation! Like night and day. I was really getting worried - all that blown away. Actually had too much bass where before I had none - that is easy, turn down / cut some dB in DSP. It is now a stonkingly good bass. More solid and crisper than the old room! It really rocks actually. I do like a solid pumping bass where called for. So underpins the music and just make it all rock! Even lighter 70's rock and metal sounds great! My church organ piece sound good as does full range piano. All my usual bass testing tracks have been coming out to play - Anyone who has visited for a listen knows all about these... I have the mid horns resting on the tapped horns that are lying down along side the side walls and they actually sound good like this! Stands will be don't at some point soon though. More tweakng to follow but the underpinnings are solid as ROCK Pic of the room for Martin to follow soon As can be seen the roof side slope in to quite a high centre point some 50cm wide. It's pretty wide and long. I now have lots of space behind the listening chair. Must tame those damn LEDs too!

That is a really intriguing room shape! Almost a horn mouth at the front. Very interesting layout, too, and nothing like your old room. Does the image height differ? Glad you got the bass sorted, I need to bring a couple of my uber bass tests, one of them has the deepest bass I know (recorded on that wonderful Ruffati organ in Davies Symphony Hall).

Yes, the whole house (new build thatch cottage) is a bit different The image is a little wider than normal but it's not really a problem. I tested the system in old room with the mid horns up above the tweeters but in a little - as they will have to be. I could also offset the upper mids and the tweeters in a zig-zag config to fit them in. The horns actually seem to like the proximity to the side walls / ceiling - not text book but it adds loading and the room certainly is connected well. Another option is just to go 4 way again like I tested a while back. No probs then. It was quite compelling but I'd miss my S2's I think. It's not just that there is enough bass and it's deep when needed the whole quality of it is good! Weird how things have worked out from despair to elation in one quarter rotation of the tapped horns! Must just fit the rooms quirky shape at the end where it rises up in the end gable, funnelling the sound forward.

Glad you managed to get set up Steve it looks a very interesting Play Invisible moments of Beauty the systems needs to be able to do those low notes yet be capable of producing the piano and drums. Most systems really struggle with the test and gives a great sense of what the bass is doing (e.g Hopefully helping the rest of the range)
