Ok, thanks. I tested by defragging it and it trimmed it, which is correct behavior. I'll look more closely.

Windows 10X is coming later this year. Microsoft has released the first developer preview of Windows 10X giving the first proper look at Microsoft's new OS. Let's go hands-on and see what's new.
Interesting, hard to tell from this, but it seems very Chrome O/S in places

Funky. Like the best bits of Windows 10 and Android 10.
Windroid...

Nope, sorry, Tim. Windows 10 is the last ever operating system that Micro$oft is ever going to produce, they said so. Windoze 10X is obviously just Windoze 10 in a new frock.

10 will remain for desktops and large mobile devices. 10X is really for phablets and smaller devices.

10 will remain for desktops and large mobile devices. 10X is really for phablets and smaller devices. Now there's a word I semi-irrationally dislike, "phablet." They should call them "Tones," Or even "Can't-make-its-mind-up-what-the-fuck-it's-supposed-to-be-but-it's-got-a-sim-s," which is far more descriptive.

Funky. Like the best bits of Windows 10 and Android 10. Windroid... That's a good analogy. I'm not sure it'll give me what I'd like, but anything less bloated than the current Windows 10 would be an improvement for my uses. Fingers crossed.

Now there's a word I semi-irrationally dislike, "phablet." Have you seen the new square Huawei? Bizarre. I think you mean the "Squawei," Martin. I take it you mean the new "foldable" phone they're currently punting? I actually like that, and it's a shame that there's no access to the Google Play Store for Huawei kit these days, because I think that'll kill it stone dead. Well, that and the €2,499 price tag. It also remains to be seen how durable the screen actually is. There are some good pics here... techielobang.com/blog/2020/03/21/first-look-huawei-mate-xs-foldable/

For the average user with average hardware it should be fine Mike, as that's the majority user base Microsoft are serving - but that's not me. Fingers crossed, but by now you should be OK, assuming you like (or even notice) what they've changed

A Feature Update does a pretty good refresh of Windows. Run Disk Cleanup and tick all boxes once a month and you'll keep it fresh.

But... you all do backups, right?
And you don't "lose stuff" with a Feature Update, unless the present installation is terribly unstable.

I wasn't quite sure what Mike meant by 'losing stuff' so decided to keep quiet! Backups; One is none Two is one Three with one off site is a backup

Cautious ticking things to delete as I've lost things like passwords being filled in for me Anything important is on 3 PCs and up to 2 pendrives Do not have a lot

Anything important is on 3 PCs and up to 2 pendrives Copy your files to a cloud store, like OneDrive. Connect each of the 3 PCs to the same cloud account. Now your 3 PCs share the same files and your documents are backed up. Job done.

Ah, I meant actually uninstalling or disabling numerous Windows components Mike - as in most of the operating system that I never use. I have 3 Windows desktop PCs that all do different things, so they have been setup for those tasks. That's why Win10 ticks me off with it's forced updates, as they undo everything. They removed the option of choice after 8.1 and now with version 2004 it's even harder to achieve, even with Win10 Pro.
Ho hum, it is what it is, but it's a shame they feel they have to hold (and monitor) everyone's hand, we are all their product now. They've gone the same route as Apple and Google, trying to totally control and manipulate their user base. Windows 10 isn't free!
