Done it - my desktop, laptop, and tablet all now on Win10 with no real problems EXCEPT....
OUTLOOK !
I found on all 3 machines, and for all logons, Outlook would no longer send messages - they got stuck in the Outbox. Having read numerous fixes for this problem (which has been around for years, not just Windows 10) all to no avail, I tried a system file check.
Hey presto - sfc reports some corrupted files found and fixed and Outlook now working fine.
If you want to know how to run it:
Run a command window as administrator and just type in: sfc /runnow

Done it - my desktop, laptop, and tablet all now on Win10 You're brave! I only have a couple of machines running Win7, and there's no way I'll take them up to to Win10 in the same 6 month period. My laptop doesn't get upgraded until I get the nod about certain proprietary programming tools having been updated to run on Win10 and all the initial problems ironed out.

I've been performing compatibility testing like mad at work over the last couple of weeks. I'm now doing deployment testing using the new MDT 2013 Update 1 for automated OS and application deployment. All this with some 160 desktops, laptops and tablets to upgrade starting in a couple of weeks and completing before Christmas. Most will get new SSDs, all will get W10. This is worth a couple of years' extension to hardware age and therefore saving of precious budget for other projects because of the extra performance yield. Training will be minimal because the W7 to W10 jump is straightforward (unlike that to W8/W8.1).

Strat I am the biggest windows hater on the planet after an update killed my PC last year and I now have 5 x 1tb portable HDD's with all my stuff on and carbonite to back it all up to the cloud but I still run 3 systems with W7. I thought let's give it a go this morning to 10. WTF totally painless, even my dymo lable porinter still works! Fear not and do the up-grade.

Because I use certain proprietary programming tools (they're telephone system specific programmes) it will have to wait until I get the nod. The phone system manufacturers are never bang up to date with respect to drivers, and they require a catch up period. It may even be that there's no need to update anything to do with the equipment concerned, but until it has been tried and tested I'll stick with Win7.

You may well yawn, but I did a little jig today as I completed my testing and EVERYTHING works, on a variety of Lenovo desktops and laptops that we use. Need to do some tablet testing too, but I'm largely there. Chris - I know exactly what you mean, but if I waited for all our software vendors to complete their approvals I wouldn't be able to roll out before March. WTF they've been doing until now I can't say as the Technical Preview has been out for long enough.

Thinking, not very hard, having interminable meetings which only end when the cleaners come in to wake them up, prevaricating, using bullshit bingo buzz words, going on holiday, forgetting - repeat - repeat - repeat

I only use my laptop for the odd web search and Microsoft office. I got rid of Office 2010 and went back to 2003 version. I've been offered Windows 10 free.
I hate change and I especially hate bugs, delays, fiddling with settings and generally wrestling with computers. Have I anything to gain by moving to Windows 10 from Windows 7?
I'm guessing I should leave well alone but at least wanted to ask. After getting Vista, I literally smashed my laptop in frustration, so I don't any to get into anything that takes me down the road to more frustration.

Win7 to Win10 will give you greatly improved performance, integration of all the best features of Win7 and Win8.1, better security and stability and some really good functionality 'under the hood'.

Most people surf the net and send e-mails, what else is needed for them?

Depends on what they do. Some here do development/programming work, others do systems administration. Don't assume that everyone is just a surfer/e-mailer!
