If you want bass grip you'll certainly get that with one of Colins amps.
My PMC 21 standmounts didn't come alive until I tried Colins M50 power amp, and I'd tried many others before it.
Well worth a listen and I'm sure you could get a demo one to try if he has one available.

It would be good to have a listen though. I don't suppose you've heard his "new" Claymore? I haven't come across anyone who has tried it ...

Hi Jules, I have one....you're welcome for a listen or even borrow it when you're next up here. It's a very good amp with grip. My suspicion is that an amp higher up the range will bring you even more.

The current <no pun intended> leader of the pack among the reviewers and measurers appears to be the Benchmark AHB2... benchmarkmedia.com/products/benchmark-ahb2-power-amplifier I've been following the latest Purifi Class D from Bruno Putzeys which also measure well and are highly efficient. Traditional Class AB amps seem to be falling significantly behind due to power consumption, heat and average measurements although bargains can be found in the used market. Good luck with whatever path you choose to go down. One of the most boring and flat sounding amps you will ever hear, may have an s/n or 128 or more and a ruler flat response curve but its so boring like all the BM dac's hence why they they like Holo May's with them Power and dynamics ok but involving and musical 50 lights years away

Did we?? I can't remember that - any idea which model? Colin brought it with him and we set it up for a while. It sounded potent and grunty with a nice soundstage. Sorry, can't remember the model. Ah - M50 series.

Hi Jules, I see that the Norma Audio Revo IPA 70B is on top of your list. I have this amp and I am very happy with it. I would venture that it would be a good match for your Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 speakers. Here is a link to Norma owners at Hifi Wigwam forum. This is what I wrote there: You can find the Norma Revo IPA 70 second hand in the order £2200 - 2500 which I think is very good value. If it would help I could offer an audition in Cambridgeshire.

I would venture that it would be a good match for your Sonus Faber Venere 2.5 speakers. Thanks very much for this! Glad you are enjoying your Revo. I've had a trawl through the Wigwam thread and it certainly does pique my interest; they seem to have sorted out their distribution issue. With the market as it is right now I'd need to demo one to make sure it's right for me ... I'll look into that and appreciate your kind offer, Cambridgeshire not so far from me. Cheers.

I suppose one could chalk it up to disinformation if they must but the measurements are compelling and I'm only the messenger, not the message.

As with other aspects of audio (analogue versus digital, valves versus transistors), there are many ways to skin a cat.
It should be possible to make a great amp using class A, Class AB or Class D topology.
We will each have our preference: mine is for Class AB as that is what I'm using and I haven't heard better when trying other designs. For others, their preference will be different.
