What I get with galvanic isolation and optic bridge is NO slight hi-freq, just about perceivable, irritation.
To be honest the Gustard U18 does this, with or without the optic bridge..
My system with active, before amp crossovers, and very efficient drivers (115dB / W), is different to most though. Even the ribbon tweeters are 111dB / W.

Is that akin to a kick in the pants? I tend to face my speakers so...

Next question then is placement for this optical cleansing. I have two possible locations.
1. Modem, wifi router, switch. Then 10m cat5 Ethernet cable (no possibility to upgrade or change). 2. Switch, streamer (and subsequently, system).
I’m guessing that closer to the system #2 is the better location, but due to space limitations, I’d have to put it with the modem etc.
There would still be a benefit located there I’m thinking.

The optical cable should be the longest run, if at all possible.
If not, it is better being close to the system rather than close to the router.
More noise filtering closer to the DAC would be my recommendation.

Having a had a nice upgrade using FMC for the replay side of my setup.
l am considering running another FMC to my NUC that runs my Jriver server.
Just wondering if this is worth the hassle soundwise? Does it improve things further?
Cheers Damien

Is the NUC upstream of the other fibre? Can't do any harm as any kind of PC can be very noisy.

Thanks Martin, l understand the theory, just wondering if anyone has done the upstream part, and actually heard an improvement again by running a additional FMC.

So finally got my NUC server connected to a set of FMC. Briefly....l can report that this has brought further gains, similar to the 1st FMC from my R26. Lower noise floor, but straight off the bat, the soundstage....on the right recordings,it's almost holographic...Early days... but a yes from myself.

Just thought I'd chuck this good or bad idea out their, for members with more experience.
It's seems that everyone loves these FMC nice upgrade and cheap, with PSU probably costing more than the FMC.
Now, l was wondering, would it be possible to fit a better spec Crystal (Don't know the spec fitted, guessing it's cheap low spec) and cap change,if there is space,or for better quality?
Any opinions?

My understanding is there is a cheap crystal clock inside ethernet SFPs, but optical SFPs take their timing from the host device - in my case EtherREGEN sender and Rendu receiver ( although comms are strictly speaking two-way).
So my sending end already has an external clock while the receiving end has an ultra low jitter femto clock.

So changing components will not any difference? It might do with other components, I was just using my own case.

In my case I use a Fibre Optic converter with Ethernet in from the Router then fibre connection using sfp to a D-Link switch unmanaged . While I am sure that there could be improvements in components in the box it is very small and in most cases improved quality components are often bigger . Also as I use an LB Clock before the feed to my Mutec which cleans the clock signal any way would feeding it a better times input make that much difference ?

My guess is that it would seeing how sensitive the digital domain is to noise and timing issues

If Martin theory is correct, you need to be looking at your switch or router before the FMC.
As modding the FMC is potentially a,qaste of time.

Exactly - quite honestly, the compact nature of the SFP ends would preclude opening and modding them, I think. In any case, use a Cisco SFP-10G-AOC5M (or other length) and you'll never be looking at optical cables again, it's that good.

So having my Router powered by an LPSU and the FMC powered by an LPSU as well is probably as good as I can do without opening up the Router to upgrade which beyond me. Martin were is the best place to source one of those Cisco optical cables around 2 Mtr .

Martin were is the best place to source one of those Cisco optical cables around 2 Mtr . Seach for a Cisco SFP-10G-AOC2M, I bought mine from eBay but I'm pretty sure I've seen them on Amazon. Only buy the Cisco branded ones (the cable is orange) as there is no guarantee the clones will sound as good.

l've just purchased two x Cisco, interested on they compare to Finisar FCBG110SD1C03, which l don't have a complaints about.
