There's a big difference. Qobuz don't tamper with the data at all. Tidal pollute it with MQA.

What audio quality does Amazon Music support?
From AMAZON..........Amazon Music offers lossless audio in two quality ranges: HD and Ultra HD.
HD tracks have a bit depth of 16-bits, a minimum sample rate of 44.1 kHz (also referred to as CD-quality), and an average bitrate of 850 kbps. Ultra HD tracks have a bit depth of 24 bits, sample rates ranging from 44.1 kHz up to 192 kHz, and an average bitrate of 3730 kbps.
In comparison, most standard streaming services currently offer Standard Definition (SD) with a bitrate up to 320 kbps. These audio files use lossy compression, where details of the original audio are removed in order to reduce the file size. By contrast, Amazon Music preserves the original recording information to deliver the highest quality sound available, more than 2x the bitrate in HD and more than 10x the bitrate at the highest Ultra HD bitrate. Amazon Music will always play the highest quality content available, based on network, device capability and your selected settings.

How do you rate the tracks your streaming provider gives you - after the album you chose has finished ?
I thought YouTube was good. Wondering if Spot might be better. Comes up with music I don't know that is up my street as well as music I don't know The mix is good
What does Qobuz do ?

Cool Mike, didn't know you had a Bluesound, I think after quite a few years in the market now, they still offer the best value for performance, sound quality and ease of use. I've set loads up for mates and troubleshot them a few times too. The only issue I've ever come across is they can be a bit finicky about USB thumb drives when you do a manual firmware update, some aren't recognised - so I don't recommend trying a firmware update Mike, very different to a software update . . . just sayin My two penneth, for what I know of your usage I would say you will probably be more than happy with Spotify, as long as you are happy with the sound quality? It just has everything you are likely to need. Tidal and Qobuz are worth consideration if you really must have a minimum of CD quality sound, or higher. But on a Bluesound and a decent system, Spotify is fine for most people. It's the best all rounder at the moment IMO.

Qobuz has a favourite icon for your favourite tracks, which Bubble supports so I can mark great tracks through to Qobuz.
I don't get caught up in ratings as I have no interest in other people's musical opinions!

Didn't see if it was software or firmware My current choice appears to be : Spot for a wide range of music. Qobuz for best quality Quality has to be at least equal to my TAD D-1000 - which will be the DAC and Pre anyway

I too have little to no interest in what others listen to on that service Gentle Giant - Civilian was starting point Chosen for me, amongst others Soft Machine (last iteration and best) Anthony Phillips Tony Banks - surprisingly good Steve Hillage other Gentle Giant tracks not from Civilian Didn't skip any tracks

]I have updated a few times. Didn't see if it was software or firmware That's likely a software update Mike, I was referring to a manual firmware update, which is done by downloading the latest firmware (it's an image file) from BluOS. You copy that to a USB thumb drive and insert that into the Node. You then have to reboot the Node and hold different buttons to install the firmware. It's a disaster recovery scenario if it stops working, or the OS becomes corrupt. If it's working all the updates (both kinds I think) should be handled automatically for you, so you don't have to think about anything - if it ever totally stops working, then you might need to do a manual firmware update I've done 2 for friends and that's out of a large number of units and they were early models. My best mates got 3 Nodes and a Vault, he loves them.

Update on my Spot designated playlist back to Civilian which sounds better 2nd time around and more like the gem I last heard on LP
Could be the same tracks being played 2nd time around Wobbler - The Haywain Anthony Phillips - F Sharp - very similar to his Steve Hackett his successor in Genesis Hatfield and the North - Big jobs Gong - Castle in the clouds Triumvirat - Hazy shades of dawn
so, yes good tracks but slightly disappointing they repeat so soon after I wondered if I could leave it playing all day and hear different tracks
more to come after the dog walk

I’ve found a handful of artists I’d not heard of before through Spotify.

Qobuz does different things. If you play a track from your playlist, it continues with the playlist until the end. If you play a track from an album, it continues with the album until the end. It doesn't offer other material, but that could be Bubble rather than Qobuz.
I think that's just right. I want the silence between material to contemplate my next listen.

Ah, would take forever for me as my playlists are quite complex. Eg multiple recordings of Shosta 10 for comparison some of which have other works edited out of the playlist. Of course it could be done but I don't have the urge right now. You probably know this by now Jules, but there are automated programs that allow you to transfer playlists and saved albums etc between streaming services. Qobuz offer one when you sign up for the trial called Soundiiz and it's free, even if you cancel the subscription, normally it's a paid service. There are others, don't know the names, but I suspect Google does So no reason to lose any playlists when/if you swap over. soundiiz.com/features

for avoidance of doubt Tidal offers FLAC in addition to that MQA stuff That's what they tell you and what they want you to believe, but as is becoming apparent, a lot of what they have been saying is clearly false and nothing more than marketing babble. I'll leave you to decide who you believe, I have my opinion on who I think is being truthful goldensound.audio/2021/11/29/tidal-hifi-is-not-lossless/

I'm sure I read that all Tidal offerings in FLAC are MQA encoded.
In any case, try comparing the sound with Qobuz. I did, and that's the best way to find out for yourself.
