Nice work Damien, I wonder how much more you can squeeze out of the R26 e we other all your mods. It must be a serious step up from the standard Dac now. l'm happy Matt, l'm waiting on Jules opinions when he visits next, sadly l don't seem to live near any other TAS members to invite to have a listen,of course everyone's welcome. Perhaps l should start canvassing for members in the Midlands 🤣

I created additional shielding for my LKS DAC transformers.
I should do the same for the Gustard.

Firstly thanks all for being so supportive and positive in your comments. After my visit to McDonald's for lunch with my son, you inspired me to carry on. R26 3 way sheilding by Damien Read, on Flickr So we now have 3 separate bits of Sheilding, the first the R2R Board, then l went crazy.. Did the audio output board, and lastly gave a bit more love to the K2 synthesiser and the Crystal, by giving them there own sheilded hoods. Now can't actually believe l'm writing this... Well..thats truely a OMG moment 😲 That's pushed up things up another notch, l never heard the sound stage so wide and that clique 3D, it's like the R2R mod was only hinting at what was possible..... This should be easy replicate, and best still... you can just ditch if you want... TBH l can't see why you would want to .. I only wish you could experience the sheer jump in detail, l'm playing the Hi Res version of Tears For Fears album Sowing the seeds of love album, now l only played this yesterday after my SSD psu mod, and folks .. lt's different league territory compared to yesterday, pratt ,dynamics... I have to thank you all for giving me the push...... Bloody shame l have to cook tea now. Don't know how l'm going to top this now. Damien

Great result Damien. Do you have a Tungsten cube on the crystal under the new copper cover?

Great result Damien. Do you have a Tungsten cube on the crystal under the new copper cover? Only on the K2 synthesiser Matt, l use the LB clock, so l added a bit of damping to the Crystal and a little sheilden hood. l figured that K2 may spilling out some RF, so l just enclosed it,so thatswehere l sit my tungsten club, on the K2 synthesiser.

By 'processor', do you mean the X-2 synthesiser module? That's where my cubes are in the U18 and X26 Pro.

imgur.com/a/M3lPOrqTook inspiration from Damiens post on shielding, plus it give me something to do with the weather being so poor atm. Well, it is an easy mod, ok takes abit off time to measure/cut, copper slug tape boxes together inside and out, oh there was a metal box Damian said to put over 4 Regs, this was also copper slug taped...and important, all boxes have insulation tape added on the bottom, where boxes sit on PCB and any other places where the copper might touch something. Well I was as surpised with the outcome as Damiem was, played my first track, the sound is fuller, highs, bass and mids have improved , more seperation between instruments, cymbols on Fleetwood Macs "Dreams" best i've heard on my system,clean/loud . Soundstage fills the room as before but the small details in the mix is cleaner..more dynamic' As a friend alsways said to me , you know your system has improved, as when listening, "The music seems to be playing slower, meaning your brain isn't working overtime trying to decipher what your hearing coming out of your speakers". Mesh for cage was supplied by Damien, Ive thank this guy alot over the last few weeks with one thing or the other as he was helping me set up my server(It's a wonder our wives didn't think we had another woman lol). TBH I wasn't getting the love for the music from server but today after the mods ,I will have the desire to go into my listening room and turn the music on and be happy......what's that you said Damien....Thank God for that. Guy's ,this is the the best I can write, I don't wrote very well.lol.
Keep forgetting how to add a pic..not a link

l'm sure atoz will update, but we have had to rethink this method, due to the sheer amount of heat the X26 gives off. The R26 doesn't produce this amount of heat. So we will look at a slightly different method, looks like more mesh will be used.
On a positive note, it's shows that sheilding does really help on the sound quality, we just need to add more ventilation.
l'm sure we will get there, and at least we all learn from our errors.

Well after a good listening session, I checked the dac, I had left lid off, I felt the heat from the dac, I lifted the copper box nearest the mesh off , the caps under that box had got very hot to the touch, not good, do removed it. The caps under the copper box nearest output section the caps were fine.
I had read the x26pro does go warm....
It's drawing 60 w of quiescent current at all times and has no external heat sinks. A significant portion of that 60w of quiescent current flowing to multiple discrete circuits that are biased heavily into class-A territory.
We must have posted at same time Damien...well I was typing as you posted

Sounds like the copper mesh could work well then to let the heat out.

As you, Damien & I have found & as I have advocated, copper foil is your friend, your comment "As a friend always said to me , "you know your system has improved, as when listening, the music seems to be playing slower meaning your brain isn't working overtime trying to decipher what your hearing coming out of your speakers"." That is exactly what I found after all my copper foiling, to the extent that I checked the speed of my turntable. Whether I would have actually said slower, certainly more relaxed, making it easier to hear fine detail, but slower sums it up nicely.
