I know the Farad has a good reputation in the US but I didn't know anyone in the UK with one until now.
Well done, if "doing a MartinT" means buying a power supply and getting totally unexpected gains from it. I'm still wowed by my two JS-2s!

Yes... your JS-2 are also superb. As you have probably discovered, it's all about the subtle things at this level.
Crazy.. on just how sensitive a clock can be.
Thought you like the phrase "Doing a MartinT" as l can use it for any Hifi purchase 😉

Crazy.. on just how sensitive a clock can be. Exactly - I had hoped that I would notice the difference. What I didn't expect was a whole new level of subtle detail, soundstage, note decay and incredible bass tightness. All from just powering a clock! Lesson learned, onto the next one...

Nice upgrade Damien. The Farad looks like a really nice power supply, I remember reading about it when looking at their streamer. Will it be getting the Graphene treatment?

I guess "Subtle" is the good description. Although using that cheap Zero Zone Rcore certainly peaked my interest, and l wonder if Rcore has benefits over Toroid transformer, as l was amazed at its performance in comparison to my others PSU l had to hand, it's obviously not in the same league as our current psu's, but probably only 5 to 10% behind.

Although it has a fancy Purple Fuse that probably has Graphene in it. I will give it a dab when l have my next session. Anyway l'm looking forward to your ground box blog when it starts... "Build Along With Matt" sounds like a great title 🤣... Hopefully you'll inspire me to get my ass in gear.

Received Damians ZZ rcore ps today, Cheers.
I played Dire Straits "Telegraph Road" and swopped over between Damiens and my Chinese lps. When using Damiens ZZ it was like I had turn the volumn up...guitar was sharper, everything sounded punchier, I think Damien said he heard better resolution,I agree. Play Deep forest next, "Hunter" I have never got the full effects of this album that I heard today "Holographic" voices behind my head, going front right to left and back again, same from Led Zep " whole lotta love" yes the effects on that track are not new to me but again it was "Holographic" in sound. Time to buy me think.

Well the very cheap Chinese LPS arrived today, sadly l won't be able to test for week, but l have a chance to take a few quick photos to wet your appetite. 9v Chinese LPS by Damien Read, on Flickr l purchased two of these, a 9 volt to test the LB clock and a 5v for possible use on FMC or to SSD 9v Chinese LPS internal 1 by Damien Read, on Flickr It's comes with the usual variable voltage screw, so l should be able to dial down to 8.25v 9v Chinese LPS internal 2 by Damien Read, on Flickr 9v Chinese LPS internal 3 by Damien Read, on Flickr Build quality it true to its AliExpress listing, it comes with one additional DC 5mm adapter, plastic case, sadly only a non fused two pin lead... What peaked my interests was on the AliExpress listing, it seemed the seller has put some effort into to it, due to his dislike to SMPS. So it's cheap and worth a punt. Here is the link to the ltem a.aliexpress.com/_EQoJFwtEnjoy while l am away for a bit, will report back soon. Damien

Wow that is ridiculously cheap. *Looks* like an SMPS. Thought for a moment one of us was confused, turned out to be me If you want a better mains lead you can do worse than cut and insert a female IEC close to the box

You can see why it peaked on my radar.... Its not perfect, but hopefully will perform well, Of course a metal enclosure would nicer, but you could always wrap it in copper tape, for a bit of Sheilding.

Big transformer, no choke are the clues.

Really depends on what power the SMSL Q5 draws? l'm away on Holiday at present... so the concession still out there, until l test. Gut feeling... lt won't be as effective as that cheap Zero Zone Rcore l mentioned a number of posts ago.But let's be open minded.

You also need to know how many amps is required. Naturally if it requires a bit of power, amps wise,a small psu won't cut it.
