Been a bit quiet on the forum of late, perhaps it's just the dark and cold nights of winter. Personally l prefer Spring and Summer for listening, and this time of year,my wife and l get dragged into various Drama's and TV programmes, so the focus goes off Hifi a little. Still l have plenty of interaction and nice chats to TAS members via PM. Clifford has recommended me some Furez speaker cable, so l'll report on that when it's arrived. And l know this may probably bored 99% of you.... Will be experimenting with HBN, similar to Rochelle Salts, apparently you use a ridiculously small amounts 0.3 to 0.5 grams! HBN by Damien Read, on Flickr As l ease into 2024, l feel my Blog may change to different subjects, after all its my Blog. And life isn't 100% Hifi is it,so if l start talking about a different random subject, don't be shocked. Okay that's it for now, If l get chance, l will report back on the HBN powder, l am apprehensive to try,as my set up is sounding superb at the moment. To lnfinity...And Beyond 🤣 Damien

I look forward to reading how this works out and also how they came about picking HBN to test.

Sometimes I feel like hibernating. Yes Martin, l know that feeling well, on the positive side, l believe we may have a early spring, at least nature seems to be hinting at it. The Magpies have appeared before Christmas, bird activity is busy for January, and lastly, l've have bulbs starting to come out on December... Let's hope my gut feeling is correct. 🙏

Today, we had 8 squirrals in and about the bird feeder, one sparrow hawk who had just bagged a plump pigoen and was enjoying lunch, some cheeky robins a couple of starlings and bloody parakeets, sodding things lol

I use to feeds the birds with sunflower hearts (only in cold weather), which brought in Goldfinches, Greenfinches and the odd Sisken, lovely to see in my garden, it took the sunflower hearts to bring those 3 species in,no seed, none of the above. Unfortunatly the seed also brought the rats, so had to stop.
I use to keep and breed these.(not my vid)

Welcome to TAS Birdwatch..... 🤣 Good call on Sunflower seeds, we have Goldfinches in the area, but they are shy,and very rarely venture into the Garden, we have a ridiculous amount of nesting sparrows, Blackbirds, Robins, Blue tits, etc But would love to get visiting Goldfinches, we used to have one when we where kids.

Been busy continuing with a Bit of DIY today, had the extension signed off by the building inspector...Happy Days
l was hoping to experiment with HBN, but that took a backstep, simply as another opportunity happened.
As l've mentioned, l tend to also follow certain threads on Headfi, and by chance "Camrector" offered to make some FIR files, so l could place in jriver.
He uses a programme called Focus Fidelity for Room Measurements, Focus software for capturing is free, but to make a filter you need to pay a license fee,so provided you have suitable mic,in my case Dayton Audio USB mic your nearly good to go
l say nearly, as l found the Measurement software to be funny,it refused to run on a N4000 and i5 laptops, so in the end l had to use my i7 desktop,l should also add it runs on Windows OS.
So l ended up taking 8 Measurements, then l simply sent them to Camrector to play with.
Before l air my views, l have used DSP in the past, MathRoom was good, but lost some of the audio quality,at the expense of sort out peaks. l gave REW a short, but it's so long winded, l gave up on it,although l did use it as a guide,to work out the peaks on the low frequencies, and as most of them are low,l managed to dial out the peaks. And so l have been happy, not really to bothered.
Focas Fidelity is on the face of it quite advance,in brief its will sort out phase issues, peaks and time delays, and you can user configure, should you want fine tune further.
So l loaded the FIR files into Jriver, and began A B testing, straight from off l noticed the lower frequencies seemed to be more controlled, less peaks,or overwhelment on certain tracks.
Another noticeable asset was music sounding more Coherent, additional parts of a mix, seemed to a bit easier to follow, not a massive or vast difference, but a detectable one all the same. I would call that a result.
Having shared my views to Camrector, he disclosed that my Room Measured well, and apart from levelling out the low end, and doing some minor work on phase and timing,he expected my response, and also added, once my brain has adjusted,l can expect to discover other positives on well known recordings.
I would like to thank Camrector for his efforts,it was a generous gift, and it's nice to give praise when it's due.

This sounds promising Damien.
Am I right in thinking this will only work for music files played from the PC you’ve used to measure and create the adjusted file?

Not sure if that's the case, l believe Volumio and Roon have similar set up, it really depends on your software your using.l Don't stream so l am probably not the best person to ask

No doubt your paths have crossed Martin. Let's just say his opinions on external clocks are total rubbish and leave it at that.
