l come to the conclusion, that you need to put some effort into your network. Why do you think I look so old? But seriously, yes you do and it rewards the effort in spades.

Finally managed to sort moving equipment.Server is now running nicely with Jriver. Thanks Tim
Swapped out my SKY Router PSU for a ifi Power X, even though the router is about 150ft away, it's made a nice improvement, making things more relaxed and less glare, certainly a bit more dynamic while listening to Dire Straits Love Over Gold.
So l am now running my NUC that runs Volumio 3 off a SD Card via USB, and it sounds great. Now this is the first time l have used a SD card instead on a Hard Drive.
Can anybody say if there are any negatives compared to a SSD ? Or if running a SD card is better method audio wise? And if different speed or manufactured cards alter the playback ?

In my Pi and Asus days, booting from SD cards worked fine. A good Samsung Class 10 will boot a bit quicker. SD cards are an order of magnitude slower than SSD, but less noisy.
My Rendu also boots from SD, but after that everything runs from RAM.

Thanks Martin, l find the SD micro cards a bit of headwork. Different speeds etc.
l am cutting running a SanDisk Ultra HC l ,l believe it's a class 10 speed card?
It doesn't seem to be too slow loading Volumio 3. l guess another limiting factor is the USB reader itself.
So to summerise, it shouldn't have any baring on sound quality just load up speed.

I am guessing UHS-2 will give faster speeds

I am guessing UHS-2 will give faster speeds I guess so, technology moves on. Really not convinced you'll see a worthwhile performance increase in these boot-only environments, though.

My USB converter is UHS-2 compatible, so should be a interesting test Martin, like yourself, l like to play, l'll report back, in theory, it should load faster, but theory and reality are to different things 🤣

So today l rolled up my sleeves today to tackle another mod on the R26.
Today's task, remove the cheap 50 Ohm cable for the 10Mhz Clock input, and replace by direct feeding to the board using a BNC to MXC adapter by Amphenol. This was the best l could find, and if your interested it's part no 242204, l purchased it from Farnell.
Well l am happy to report, that good old Rodders was on the money. lt's given me a big gain, placement on instruments, more micro information, for myself a big gain that has caught me by surprise. l shouldn't be that shocked, l have actually tried the Coax as a clock lead in the past, and didn't like it.
All that's needed is for another Zero Zone 01 supercap psu to arrive for the server, then lan to Fibre, and lm done...for a bit
As it stands,my set up sounds the best it has ever
A good example is the Rush album 'Hold Your Fire',l'll be straight, l love the album, but not a fan of the drum production, in particular the cymbals. I have few albums like this, the cymbals are placed lower in the mix,and come over as being rolled off, similarto Dolby Noise B Reduction, this is no longer the case, as the cymbals no longer sound rolled, yes they are still low in the mix, but they now sound like a cymbals, with zing and sparkle. This is not so noticeable on well recorded material, but apparent on the recordings that are not quite their. You'll have to forgive my way of explaining the improvements, but it's a noticeable improvement.

So minor update. Had my UHS 2 Card turn up today, a 32gb Lexar Professional 300MBs card, that sits in A HAMA USB converter, which has aluminium case.
One bugbear on the HAMA was a flashing Blue LED light, l dismantled it,and got rid of those LEDs.
Compared to my Class 10 card, boot up from Volumio 3 1 minute 25 seconds. With the UHS 2 it's 1 minute 14 seconds.
So not a massive saving, however what really noticeable, is when l access Volumio 3 via the app using UHS 2, its really fast, faster than my Samsung 980 Nv SSD DRIVE, and that's saying something.
I haven't had chance compared if there are any difference between cards audio wise, so will report back.

Today... Well been busy, craming in what l can.
Firstly l have NUC 5150 running as it should headless,on Dabian 12 so happy with that. Secondly added an additional Zero Zone 01 Ultra Cap psu for the NUC. This seems to have brought additional calmness to the table, more slam on lower frequencies. Thirdly..l paid attention to more sheilding on USB leads, and the UHS-2 HAMA card holder Speaking of which, l can detect no difference in sound between my Class 10 SD card or the UHS-2, so l am still to the UHS-2,as it boots slightly faster, but operationally it access Volumio 3 at lighting pace, should l need too. However Volumio 3 just sits there doing nothing.
So l can happy report, the set up is sounding superb, l couldn't be happier.
This leaves just a bit more tweeking, trying out Fibre, l also have to DIY a XLR cable,l am expecting that to pay dividends, l'm lucky, as l have some pure 99.9 % 5n silver, kicking around, back from the 90s,when it was cheap then, and you could have considered using gold or platinum, but those days are gone.
Hopefully l haven't bored you all to death.

It's always good to read different paths to one's own and often the paths will converge, so keep it coming D.

Thanks Matt, it's often the little bits that make a different, personally one all the major improvements is simply sheilding the end of connectors, even though you may have sheilding in your cables,it generally ends just before the soldier point, seems to be worth a punt on most plastic based connectors

I will leave it until winter to tackle though when I’m indoors more. I did get a sheet of this and cut tiny pieces and placed them on various chips and above the digital screen inside my dsp. www.mouser.ie/ProductDetail/3M-Electronic-Specialty/AB7050HF?qs=qI3sF1OJRWhp30e5xa13yA%3D%3DI then sat the remaining 90% of the sheet against my power regenerator until I get a chance to try more piece’s elsewhere. The absorber helped imaging and inner detail. If you’re interested I could send you a piece of the sheet to cut up and try as I’ll never get through it all.

That's a kind offer Matt, l haven't played with Absorber Sheets before, l have with clip on Ferrite absorbers on cables, but l prefer shielding.
I presume placement near the transformers would be a good place. ln regards to chips, l tend to sheild, although l haven't really got into that side much. l know Rodders, damp then sheilds on his clock's, apparently it brings an improvement.
l will PM you reference, the sheet, and l can give you some of my DIY Graphene mix to play with.

Well today, after a lovely lunch with the family at Zivvi's ,l grab a few hours to finish construction on my DIY XLR Lead.
lt's bits l have had kicking around, some 5N Pure Silver 99.9 1mm,Teflon tubing,l wrapped each wire with some multiple layers on Tin foil, wrapped each cable over like a platt, copper sheilded both ends, and use metal based ,gold pin Nautrik XLR, very DIY.
Very pleased with the results, mids and high frequencies sound nice, and not forced, bass has lost a bit of bloom, which l am happy about,l always find Copper tends to over egg the Bass region.
lt's great when you can reuse items,l know this would cost me £££ just because of the price of metal these days, these easily out perform my Neutrik XLR l tried out a few weeks ago by a country mile. Today's a good day.... Tomorrow. all being well TFLEX 405

It's a funny old world. What with the success of TFLEX 405 it pipped my memories back to the days of the 90s trying out different tweets..Green Pens, CD Stabiliser..can or can l hear a difference 🤣
Of course things have moved forward so much,l believe we are living in a golden era for Hi Fi advances, sadly our hobby may be small and not like the days of the 80s 90s ,when Tottenham Court Road was packed with HI Fi components, but digitally l am at a level l could have only dreamed of many years ago.
What's next... LAN to Fibre converter
And swap out my NUC 5150 to a slightly slower unit a 4500, call me paranoid, and although the 5150 doing a great job, l don't like fans.
I am then left with the question should l run my Dabian 12 Server off my Samsung 980 Nvm or should l run it off USB using a UHS 2 card, l guessing this may be a quieter option then Nvm...still plenty to play with 🤣

Have you been down to Tottenham Court Road recently D? It's totally unrecognisable and I don't think there is a hifi dealer left anymore! The tech shops hung on a bit longer but there is only a handful of those left now.

Visited a few years ago, and yes ...They have all gone.. l remember being 18 years old, and was my 1st visit to London, l actually had a physical headache, l had never seen ,and l guess l never will, so many Hi Fi components in my life...l was in heaven 😆 I don't think l pressed so many cassette eject doors in my life...looking for that smooth action
