Petea,
Yes I agree with this statement
"The benefits of a good diet and exercise extend way beyond"

I finally got to see the nurse at my GP's siurgery this afternoon. It was nothing like I was expecting, she didn't erven check my levels. Apparently it was purely a "Diabetic Foot Check" I'd beem signe up for. Good news. I have two, and they're both facing in approximately the correct direction. They both have a pulse in both places she listened, and I could tell when she was poking my toes with a rubber needle thingy, even with my eyes closed. My BP wasn't too horrendous for someone who suffers from " White Coat Syndrome," I got a B12 jab while I was there, and that was it. I asked for pointers on diet and she was of the opinion that didn't need to go " too mad" and to have a look at the Diabetes UK website - www.diabetes.org.uk/I suppose it's heartening that what news there was was good news, but I was, honestly, hoping for a bit more info. Right, I'm off to make a bloody great omelette (in the air fryer - an experiment)

Right, I'm off to make a bloody great omelette (in the air fryer - an experiment) Hmm, get ready for some potentially galactic washing up! All mixed and cooked in a single cake pan. I thnk I overdid the " fillings" though, the egg was nearly crowded out. It was very quick too. Grease the cake pan, break the eggs into it and whisk them whle the fryer is coming up to temperature, chuck whatever you like into the beaten egg (sliced mushrooms, sliced padron peppers, chopped onion, cubed chorizo, and bacon lardons) place the pan into the fryer, and cook for 8 - 10 minutes. Job done. Delicious.

I have been disappointed with all of the dietary appointments I've ever had. A combination of making too many assumptions and stating the bleedin' obvious. They all seem to have a focus on sugar intake without thinking about weight loss. My focus is on the latter, and I set the insulin accordingly. Much more effective for both targets.

That's why I'm so surprised at how well my last nutrionist appointment went. I was fully expecting to be disappointed. I walked out feeling great.
All foods get converted into sugars but carbs convert the fastest.
She boiled it down to 60 grams of carbs per meal to get onto a path for a better life.
I'm currently on day 5 with almost no sugar aside from 1 banana and one iced coffee that contained sugar, within those 5 days.

There are so many conflicting opinions online I've worked out that as long as I choose my websites carefully I can eat pretty much whatever I want, but if I look at the wrong ones I'm supposed to subsist on low-fat water.

Having a low sugar / carb diet is a no brainer for anyone wishing to live a healthier lifestyle, diabetic or not. It has done wonders for maintaining my current weight and I hope I never return to former eating habits.

Agreed, Jules.
I'm 42 years old now and it only occured to me recently that these workout routines/running that I do (I make sure to find ones I don't hate, or I'll fail) and these healthier approaches to eating (can't hate it, find one that works, or failure is imminent) have to be a life long pursuit now. It's a permanent lifestyle change now or I'll be laying in a hospital in a few years thanks to health complications that arose from mistreatment of my body.
My weight has fluctuated constantly from 199 to 203 pounds (90kg - 92kg) since December.
Recently it went to 205 pounds. No more.

At least my local food bank has benefited from my diabetes. I buy some things in bulk, and so I had 72 cans of San Pellegrino fizzy fruit drink stashed that was doing me no good, as well as a few packets of biscuits. I dropped the food bank an email and two of their staff popped around and relieved me of the sugar-laden (but delicious) filth this afternoon.

I've begun to notice an issue with getting my sugar levels down as far as I dare. It involves my eyesight first thing in the morning, which is usually around 05:30. If I get a good reading in the range 5.0 - 5.9 (I got a 4.8 a few days ago), my eyesight is very contrasty and lacks focus. It goes hand-in-hand with feeling a bit light-headed.
The eyesight issues and light-headedness pass as soon as I've had breakfast and is thankfully gone by the time I get into the car for the 40 mile commute.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I just found my exercise bench that my wife hid away more than a decade ago. Can't remember how it is assembled, and all the quick release pins are missing. But I bought two pins (expensive!) and hope to at least figure out how to use the basic bench without the various attachments. The doctor says I am close to being diabetic. My weight has been steady over the last 15 years at between 80 to 84KG. I now tend to drink more water (Volvic, because the taste reminds me of the rain water I drank in the Amazon jungle). I got literally cupboards full of wines and spirits that I have been stashing away since the ninities, and somehow managed to stay away from drinking. My eldest son is getting married in Africa, so my wife is shipping three big shipping barrels full of alcohol to him for his wedding. That should ease the load on me...

I tried some of this stuff tonight. I will be buying more. us.greencola.com/products/green-fruit-flavors/Ingredients
Water, sour cherry juice (10%) (from concentrated juice), carbon dioxide, acidifying agents citric acid, preservatives potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate, sweeteners steviol glycosides and sucralose, flavourings Table of Nutritional Information per 100 ml
Energy 21 kJ /5 kcal Fat 0 g Saturates 0 g Carbohydrates 1 g Sugars 1 g Proteins 0 g Salt 0.01 g It also comes in Cola, Lemonade, Orangeade, and Lemon & Lime flavours. It seems like a decent substitute for a can of " ordinary" fizzy drink as a bit of a treat now and again.

I bought the Sour Cherry from Amazon in a pack of 24 (£17.00) or they're available from Sainsbury's at £3.50 for a 4-pack. A mixed pack of 6 each of Green Cola Orange, Lemon, Sour Cherry, and Cola, is £19.99 from Amazon.
