Weights and footers work on my grounding boxes. Mad, isn't it?

Wondered if the footers had to be in place before weights made any difference Not so from what I heard today I assume there will be another step up adding footers Used to think grounding boxes couldn't work

I put 2 1.1kg weights on top of my Coherent RTZ2mk2 and over the next 3 days noticed an increase in speration and definition, along with tighter, cleaner and lower bass, overall its a winner, all for about £15.

Great My RTZ 3 had one granite placemat on it. Improved sound by putting 3.4kg on the placemat I wonder how far we can go with this !

Doesn't putting heavy weights on gear result in squashed dynamics??

It widens the soundstage though!

Testing time
Management Summary : Put weights on your kit and extract more music from your system for very little money The heavier the better
Recent purchases of various granite coasters and placemats has given me more flexibility for weights on kit Self adhesive felt applied yesterday. You can keep the existing feet but I prefer keeping the kit safe from granite banging or scraping over it.
All weights and Black Ravioli footers removed from TAD M2500 Power Amp. This was the only change. Weights and BR left with the rest of the system.
Test. Sounds good, better than expected.
For completeness I tested everything I have.
One 100mm square black granite coaster. 240g Subtle improvement in sound Surely not Retest, yes there is. That is a surprise.
Coaster off, 210mm x 295mm granite placemat in place. 1583g Slightly bigger sound improvement
Second granite placemat added, another 1583g Slightly bigger sound improvement
Granite placemats removed Granite placemat 300 x 400mm in place. About 5.5kg Slightly bigger sound improvement
Second granite placemat added, another 5.5kg Slightly bigger sound improvement
That's as much height as I can sensibly fit in to be able put the Black Ravioli footers back as well. *Hard* work lifting and sliding the BRs under the TAD The biggest sound improvement - so yes BRs are still an essential
What improvements ?
'Louder', more space, more detail, smoother, nicer to listen to, more width, music opened out, greater separation, background forward while keeping foreground intact, fuller sound.
Looking closely with the BRs in place it is possible I can get another placemat in the height available.
Back into the playlist. Yes, better
More music being delivered

Work in progress continues with weights.
TAD power amp has 2 large granite placemats on top, Black Ravioli underneath sitting in Creaktiv rack.
Looks like I can just get another big placemat in !
Play test track
Struggle to slide 3rd big placemat in. No, too difficult and could cause damage to the kit or me, now or in the future. Damn. Thinks.... Will 2 smaller placemats fit as slightly thinner.... Yes !
Test track, won't be any better will it
'Tis More of the usual - greater separation, more detail, space, bass, air
Will one or more of you lot try some heavier weights out and report back - gowan

I have two Schramms (=2.4kg) on each of my streamer, DAC, power amp and P3 regenerator and three more on grounding boxes.
I'm not going to push it anymore as my 6-legged system rack is on large RDC Cones so there is a lot of weight on those 6 points.

Think I'm fine with an empty slot on the Creaktiv rack where most of the weight will be added Will check to be sure

The best weight is no weight.

The Schramms are stainless steel.

Granite placemats deliver a lot of weight for the height. Door stops deliver the weight, maybe equal in terms of size but don't allow use in lower shelves where height is limited Thus my purchase of placemats The 300 x 400mm are thicker than the 'normal' 300 x 200mm so that much heavier per item
Black on black kit makes them almost invisible too

Next weights test on the Audio Magic Conditioner
Existing Two 300 x 200mm granite placemats with weight lifting weights totalling just under 10 kilos Testing Two 400 x 300mm granite placemats replacing the weight lifting weights. Total now 13.7 kilos
More than subtle improvement. The usual as above. Louder, more detail, bass, separation. Doesn't seem believable
Lower shelf on the rack has some more height where I can just fit some weight lifting weights which add 4.5 kilos This is more believable. Only a subtle improvement
Which brings me onto another question to answer The weight lifting weights probably have a concrete like material The granite placemats are that much denser Does it make a difference *what* weights you use ? Does density make any difference ?

TAD D-1000 weight testing
Heath Robinson design on top Two Electric Beach Two 300 x 200mm granite placemats Two 2kg and two 1kg weight lifting weights Total weight 11kg
Sounds fine
Swap to Two 400 x 300mm granite placemats Total weight 11kg
Sounds more or less the same.
Five 300 x 200mm granite placemats added on top
Smoother sound with better lead in and decay to notes
Extra weight gives extra music
