Promising signs from drivers that cars can follow closer more easily.
There seems to be an around 1 second blip. Getting that close is easier, then from 0.5sec to on the gearbox is easier again. It's not known yet if the 1 sec thing is enough to essentially degrade your tyres, like of old.
Regardless it's an improvement and a couple of drivers commented how they were pleasantly surprised. They were able to follow more closely than expected, without understeer and crazy oversteer issues from the cars of recent years.
They won't be ditching DRS fake overtaking just yet though. But let's hope.
Of course as the cars evolve, some of this will be engineered out I reckon. Ever stiffer aero regs each year is the only way to combat that.

Yes, I heard Norris saying that. Let's hope for some close overtaking.
The porpoising looks bad on some cars, I was surprised at the Ferraris. It looks horrible for the drivers and I wonder how they'll cope with that during a full race?
The big four teams look to be at the top, just as expected.

There are theories that none of the big four teams have yet revealed the full design of their car, holding a few things back for Bahrain.
Also, some mutterings that flexi-floors may go against the spirit, if not the word, of the regulations. McLaren, in particular, seem to have fixed the porpoising issues that other teams have experienced.

Big rumours that Mercedes have something radical in the pipeline for Bahrain. No sidepods, with reworked cooling!
Now that would make it slippery, if true.

They use those grids of sensors for checking the aerodynamic flow.

Horrid little Horner is already trying to get the Merc banned. One wit quipped "sore losers we've heard of, sore winner!". Just cos Newey and crew didn't spot the opportunity in the rules.. Faster in sim, in reality 🤔?

Horner has subsequently denied saying those things.
It won't stop them protesting, though.

We will see how long it takes for merc to get on top of the setup. Once they find the window it works in id expect it to be an absolute missile on the straights being so slippery Re the spirit of the rules, id think that car would have a smoother wake than other cars because it is so slippery. Less disturbed air going over the car should mean a less dirty air off the back of it. The fia should have seen the cfd data on it from merc and ok'd it, otherwise it wouldnt be on track at all

It seems so and the Ferrari seems fast. Red Bull got the fastest time in the end so it still could be any of the four leading teams out ahead, although McLaren had some surprise issues and Ricciardo is unwell.

The new season starts properly today. Will the Ferraris lead, as expected, or will Red Bull prevail? Have Mercedes anything up their sleeves? What on Earth has happened to McLaren?
We'll find out soon enough. Qualifying is today.

Interesting session. Pleased to see Ferrari back.
The top cars look nice and driveable!
Not pretty cars, not as ugly as some of years gone by..
The tyres look narrower👎 than I used to have on my racing Caterham!
For a short while Magnusson was a hero😂
Lewis and Merc sleeveless😂
Looking forward to seeing overtaking to rival a Caterham race tomorrow😀
