It's possible to get some Wilsons under 10k or buy these for 700k.

Not especially relevant to the kind of speakers we are talking about here but I found this video very informative - a technical dissection of Wharfedale Lintons - interesting to see where the compromises are made in the design and where it can be improved.

Yes I'm familiar with the dealer - they look interesting - the drivers aren't huge but the cabs look surprisingly deep.

The Wilson Sabrinas are very good. Look a bit on the compact side to me but sure they sound good

Now I'd love to hear these JBL's.
I reckon the 15 inchers could do some serious damage.

I love JBLs and had a pair of L-100T floorstanders at one point. They do great crunchy upper bass, but as a rule (due to their loading), they're never the last word in extended deep bass.

Ah well spotted Martin, they only go down to 48Hz!
That's a bit crap.

I have a deep and ancient prejudice against active speakers. Don't know why.

I heard a pair last year that were meant to be the last word in 'measurements' with Class D amps but found them entirely sterile and uninvolving to listen to. Can't remember the make.

Well I found a pair of these and also a more expensive demo model and I have heard a pair of Rockports at this dealers, I think it was the Avior 11's absolutely astounding in his demo set up. Mikey, the dealer, has been around for years in the business and is very knowledgeable about hifi products and what performs well. He is very helpful, and interesting, he demonstrates set ups well highlighting differences and improvements, be warned he is very good showing you how good hifi can be resulting in you to spending more that you would have normally, but generally with good reason. www.stereophile.com/content/rockport-technologies-avior-ii-loudspeakerunique-audio.co.uk/used.html
