Been bitten by vinyl and have been buying a lot of records from Discogs, mostly NM but a few VG+ in there too. Some not the cleanest and even brand new records have a bit of snap crackle n pop. So decided to do the vinyl justice and that I needed a RCM. Have a Spinclean system, not been used but I reckon it will be "ok" but not as good as a vacuum based cleaner. So: After reading around the interwebs and a firm recommendation from a mate I pulled the trigger on one of these. (btw this possibly the trippiest YouTube demo I've seen, turn on the speakers! But it shows the RCM working well!)Spent a lot on the vinyl setup so far, so wanted to find a good bang for buck RCM which would do the business but not break the bank. Uses your own hoover to provide suction so manufacturer can keep costs down? A good thing in my book. Got some of Paul Stewart's "The Right One" cleaning fluid to use with it too. Should do the business for me, I know it comes highly reccy'd from folk over on VinylEngine etc. *EDIT* Been reading up on stylus wear and dirty records All the more reason to get a good record cleaner, make your stylus last longer! Handy if you have to send your cart for an expensive retip...

Keeping the cost down on a vacuum powered RCM is something that is going to interest a lot of folks, Gaz, so keep us posted on how it works out, won't you?

This is the best record cleaning fluid of all the ones I've tried: Clearaudio Pure Groove.

Ali, do you do a rinse cycle with the RCM? I have 5L of pure distilled water, was going to clean then rinse? Or should I just wash 'n Go?

Best to let the wetting agent in the fluid give a good dry, rather than rinse with water.

You'll see when you use it with the fluid, vacuuming off the fluid leaves a completely dry record.

Sorry Martin, how do you mean? Most of the cleaning fluids have a wetting agent which helps them to dry spotlessly. You don't need or want to rinse with water.

Cleaned a few LPs now with the RCM and Paul Stewarts "the right one" fluid.
Charity shop specials, Discogs NM/VG+ and even on brand new LPs it works a treat. Apart from making LPs visually a lot better looking, sound seems more dynamic and less sat-on. Background noise is reduced a lot.
Fantastic bit of kit, does what it says on the tin. Using your own hoover is a bit of a faff compared to the more expensive options, but gets the job done I'd say.
@ali Do you go with the instructions mate and do two rotations clean, two hoover up? Is it worth cleaning an LP more than once, any benefit from that?
thanks.

I do two complete applications of two rotations clean, two vacuum, per side.

How do you find the deck compared to the music server Gary?

Good question Tony. At the moment I'd say the they are different rather than better? Put a gun to my head and I'd say the Server sounds better...and its a pretty decent turntable setup! Just fitted a new cart though, only got a few hours on it. Would expect the new cart to open up a LOT over 50 hours or so, and I'm expecting some pretty good things from it given the reviews etc. Just playing records and enjoying what I have, lots more to come from it though. With a lesser cart fitted it was a tough one to call to be honest. Ask me again in a few weeks.
