Ok, so it's my birthday and I've amassed a decent hi-fi fund over the months, not to mention a fair amount of Nectar points. What can I buy myself that will give me the greatest pleasure in the music room? Stop sniggering at the back!
I've decided that the somewhat small Teclast Android tablet, with its 10.1" screen, is not quite what I need for streaming music control, general lookup and research, forum work and all my computing needs while in the room. My quick criteria are:
- larger than 10.1" or else no point - Decent screen quality - OS must be Android to run BubbleUPnP - OS supported and upgradeable - Long battery life so that I can charge once a week - Supports Office 365
I looked seriously at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Pro (12.4") and Lenovo Tab P11 (11") and P11 Pro (11.5"). The Samsung is too expensive for a secondary tablet (I have a Surface Pro 7 for that) while the Lenovos fall between a small display size increase or, again, too pricy.
I've landed on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE with its 12.4" display and decent, but not stupendous, all-round performance. I may watch the odd YouTube video while streaming Bluetooth to the system, but it won't get more demanding than that. No gaming here. With 8-core CPU, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, it's more than I need.
It will arrive next week.

I was careful to check the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth specs, John. Many things are unimportant to me, such as built-in sound, camera, screen refresh rate, gaming power, fingerprint reader. I think I chose the best tablet for the job. This video sums it up well.

I use a sd card for files so for me not a issue It wasn't the storage that I bought it for but rather the 6GB RAM. There are three apps I have constantly open on the Teclast (BubbleUPnP, Opera, Qobuz) and sometimes a 365 app, too. Whenever apps are in the background for any length of time they go to sleep and take a while to switch back to foreground. My 8GB Oppo phone nevers does that even if I have 8 apps running at once.

Reading about the Samsung a little more, the DeX (laptop-like) mode in landscape looks very interesting. I shall be experimenting with it.

Just seen this but I was looking at buying an S7 Pro yesterday. £735 on eBay.
It didn't go for it for one reason or another.
Looks good, though the issue appears to be Android apps aren't as well developed for tablets as Apple's.
But I never buy Apple stuff on principle.

Fear not - while a lot of the rinky-dink rubbish or pointless Android apps in the Play Store run in portrait mode only (I avoid them), all the serious stuff such as BubbleUPnP, all Microsoft Office 365 apps, all the browsers, Spotify, Qobuz, Tapatalk, YouTube, eBay, Amazon etc. work perfectly fine in landscape mode.
It really is possible to use an Android tablet as a primary work machine now. In fact, I intend to test that by taking the Samsung with me to my next show or seminar and leaving the Surface behind.
