Hello Mike, what were you doing at the time it went off? On PC, or iPad? Surfing the Net, Zoom or Emails? Are you getting a strong Wifi signal at the end of the house where you lost connection? How far were you from the ADSL box? What are you internal walls made of and how many were between you and the ADSL box? I also have another thought on what may be occurring. Let me know about the above first. I was doing fine on my laptop on the internet and also watching YouTube on the Firestick (wifi) The boss had the problem on her laptop with the ipad as backup. Neither worked Wifi signal not measured The boss was around 20 metres from the Plusnet router. Had been working fine in the same position up to 1.30pm One stud plasterboard wall, then the TP Link extender then a brick wall to the outbuilding Well IMO for what it's worth 20m from a standard Wifi router, even a new one, is likely to be pushing it, and going through 2 walls one solid. I think you maybe expecting too much from it. Sounds like MESH is your answer, as other have said.

Thanks very much Pete. Good to get kit and prices Why is that one a good one for me ? It has a modern (and quite stylish) router and 2 compatible, mesh enabled APs in a single package which would hopefully allow you to 'extend' the WiFi neywrok to the outhouse, and if not, you could then add a 3rd AP of the same type.

Will confirm the router is not misbehaving as there could be 2 or 3 different problems and intermittent is making life .... interesting

A router is not going to work as Three has its own router which accepts the 4G SIM card. That's why a set of mesh APs like the BT Wholehome is better as it connects to an existing router.

Thanks Need it to work with the existing system and the probable Three replacement

The MikeMusic WiFi virus has spread to Manchester!
My mum's laptop and our three phones were all failing miserably on WiFi. It's a 3 floor house so I disconnected the 5ghz network to just use the 2.4ghz which should have better reach and penetration through the walls. I then tested all the channels that were recommended by a WiFi analyser app and eventually found one that worked for laptop and phones.

Meant to post last week's episode
9.30am The boss could not connect with laptop or pc I was on my laptop connected by wire. Went to wifi. Worked fine. Walked to the boss and my laptop carried on working so gave her my laptop
All fine until 1pm when wifi went. Played around with positioning and found I could get the laptop on wifi if moved 1-2 metres closer to the router. Not ideal but if it works
Half term so no art this week. Next week I will be prepared
Next door neighbour still very happy with his mobile Three and Ubiquiti set up That's almost certainly what we will have at the end of this contract with Plusnet
An Ubiquiti or similar Mesh like setup that will work with existing Plusnet and transfer over to Three if required should be a good move

Mike, it would be worth you trying the same as me given you are also in a big house.
Disable the 5ghz completely in router settings and then test the different 2.4ghz channels on both yours and Sally's computer. Find one that works best for both of you.

Ah, thanks Jules The 5ghz doesn't seem to be used but it does seem to be 'able'
Will have a bash tomorrow

5GHz is used a lot here on our mesh network. Much better for video streaming.

Same issues again today with lots of dropped WiFi connections - very frustrating. Back to the router channels and if that fails Plusnet need to sort it out. The irony is the problems started soon after a new contract and 'upgraded' speeds were promised. Bllx.

I know it may seem an odd question, but it could be your telephone line is a very old copper cable and has breaks down in the cable and in insulation. We had this problem at one house, every time it got wet then it caused noise on the line and loss of internet, we had to get BT to check the cable in the end with the risk of a £300 bill to us if no issues. They came the guy replaced 50m immediately saying it was well beyond seek by date, and was surprised we still had a phone line. Just a thought.

Yes, the 'rain factor' used to affect our land line, too.

Used to affect us One visit from Openreach had him tipping water out of the junction box Another benefit of mobile. Waiting for the downsides to mobile, none yet
