That confirms they won't give a sh1t about us audiophiles. But why would they if only about 0.1% of it's customer base even knows what a FLAC or High Resolution file is, yet alone cares what it sounds like?
If you do care you don't use Spotify - simples

What I'm saying is that they're not a quality company. Quality companies care about the quality of their product to satisfy that 0.1% of discerning customers.
Spotify are not one of them. I used to respect them but not any more. Just another Ford.

Actually I only have one gripe with Spotify and that's the way they have dragged out the HiFi thing - they should have given much clearer info about if and when it's coming, with a timeline instead of half baked announcements and updates. They certainly haven't treated their customers well over this.

Interesting article in Techradar, I thought the picture selection was good as that's probably how most people experience music these days, via a phone through headphones or a smart speaker. Certainly nearly everyone I know does one of those two.
I only know two people who use something other than Spotify, one's a musician and the other a big muso, with a very good system and around 10,000 physical albums (mostly CDs) but neither are audiophiles, they just love music. They both currently use Tidal as I do for now . . . if Qobuz ever get their Qobuz Connect working, I'll switch back to them, but that's becoming as elusive as Spotify's lossless service!
Overall I'd agree with the article writer in that Spotify is the best all round streaming service 'for most people' - It seems she can't count though! SOURCE

I got the email telling me my sub is going up to 19.99 a month. Boo hiss. I can't see the added value to justify this.

I’ve started using Tidal via BubbleUPNP as Qobuz doesn’t cater to much of my musical tastes. My wife uses Spotify for its Podcasts though, so a cancellation might land me in trouble.

I got the email telling me my sub is going up to 19.99 a month. Boo hiss. I can't see the added value to justify this. If they are shrewd and it sounds like it might be coming, having tiers of choice for what you want could be a good solution, a pick n' mix menu as it were?
If Spotify offered a lossless 'music only' tier for the same price as Tidal or Qobuz I'd go back. I've no interest in their podcasts, videos, lyrics or audiobooks, I just want the music. If I could pay for that and that alone, their discovery and compatibility would make them a top choice for me. Their gig information is really good too . . . long term I still stand by my thoughts posted a long time ago, in that music streaming is a flawed business model. I wouldn't bet on both Tidal and Qobuz going out of business in the long term as it's not sustainable against behemoths like Amazon, Apple, Google and Spotify. The first three can absorb losses due to the other arms of their business apart from music, Spotify have enough subscribers and market cover to ride out the bumps, Tidal and Qobuz don't have a large enough user base or anything to fall back on if the going gets tough, which IMO it will do.
I'd be happy to see the lot go to the wall and just buy the music you want, which is much fairer all round - but that ain't ever going to happen!

I'd be happy to see the lot go to the wall and just buy the music you want, which is much fairer all round - but that ain't ever going to happen! I think the days of media ownership are over. We never owned the contents, anyway, only the physical media. Streaming is just rental and, if the model is right, the artists should benefit from a frequent stream of small payments. The payment model is flawed but I don't think the delivery method is, any more than I want to own DVDs or Blu-rays.

I agree, I don't want or need ownership, but I would like to see artists paid fairly for what they do and the only fair way for that as far as I can see, is to actually buy a product they get a contractually agreed cut from. If anyone can come up with a solution where you don't need to actually buy anything but the artist gets what they are due, I'd sign up for that too - but corporates and big tech are never going to do that either. It's Catch-22.
The problem is the streaming model is killing creativity and in the long run (unless you like brainless mainstream content), all we'll end up with is watered down piss masquerading as art.

If he was only paid that amount, he needs to talk to his publishing company, as somebody's creaming off the top or he's spinning a yarn!
