24-bit? That's new, perhaps they're finally going to embrace hi-res?

So in the month Tidal has cut its premium level and all now get Hi Res at the standard fee of £11 per month Spotify still are not able to get their lossless music service out in the open . Looks like when they do it will be an add on and you have to pay extra for it . But like the TV streamers that make you pay extra for HD streams . Given that will most likely make Spotify more expensive than both Qobuz and Tidal for lossless I do not see much point . Perhaps a better idea would be reduce the standard and leave it as compressed for the majority of non critical listeners then have a bolt on to that for those that crave something better . Never going to happen recently Spotify contacted me to tell me that my email had changed which was not by me . So got n touch and told them to delete my account and destroy my details . It took them seven emails to understand that was what I wanted . Not likely to ever sign up again .

There were strange activities on my Spotify account, too, and I cannot believe that my password was cracked. They claim it was logged into in three cities not in the UK. This was timely as I was just about to kick them out anyway.

The price increases are an irritation.

I think they will have to seriously reduce their pricing to follow Tidal’s new pricing.

So a price rise even before / if "hifi" comes which will doubtless be accompanied by another one - eek!

Way too much for a sub-quality service.

I read today that Tidal are offering a new combined cd / hi-res plan for just 10.99 a month.
I'm not advocating anyone moves to Tidal of course but it will be interesting to see how the other streaming giants price their offerings going forward.

At the moment I'm paying £13.31 for Qobuz monthly. I don't have an issue with paying that for all the music I'm streaming.

I think a lot of you are missing the point about Spotify and thinking of it just as a music streaming service and comparing it as such . . . it's not just a music streaming service and it's not aimed at 45+ male audiophiles. It's not going anywhere and it'll probably be around a lot longer than I will!
They are stretching it subscription cost wise though, but I doubt they'll lose that many subscribers and I'm sure some AI has modelled it to risk access how may people will leave compared to the extra revenue it'll generate.

Have they even turned a profit yet?

They haven't.
But Amazon didn't show a profit for 9 years ...

There are so many ways to not make a profit that don't necessarily mean they are making a loss

Compromised hi-res of 24/44 only. Why have that when you can have real hi-res?

I wish they'd get on with it, I just want to listen and make an assessment of sound quality and value for money.
