Wow that's amazing.. in this video at 11:00 he said that each valve has its own exhaust tube feeding a turbo. If I understood. Yes, it's an inspired implementation of twin sequential turbos. Direct all of the exhaust to one set of valves and one turbo only to get it to spin up fast giving huge torque from 1700rpm. Then open up the other set of valves to the other turbo and bring in the big boost.

Lots of crashes and red flags in qualy today, and a remarkable recovery by Mercedes who were looking not to make it into the top 10.

I didn't catch the full race today, only the highlights. There were quite a few incidents, including two high-speed blow-outs (Stroll & Verstappen). Perez, Vettel and Gasly did magnificently to come in the top three. Bottas had a 'mare all through and Hamilton had a 'mare right at the end when he had an easy 2nd in his pocket but for brake problems. Nice to see Vettel on the podium again.

Watched the race from start to end. A mad crazy race, full of incident. A hard race and test for the drivers but the fans will have been happy with all the thrills, spills and unpredictability.
Unfortunate for Verstappen and even as a big LH fan, I think the way things ended up with neither championship contender gaining any advantage in points, since the last race, is the right result.
All re-set for the French Grand Prix, June 20, where the LH/MV, MB/RB battle will recommence.

Man if you watch this video of the innovations in the Gemera some of it sounds like sci-fi. MikeMusicHoly Crap sounded/looked like you said their shop is just up the street from you! That place is like mad science testing lab. Need to investigate more next time I cycle round They have literally a shop in a parade of shops - but - around the corner is another exotic car showroom that might be tied in to them Will let you know... SuperVettura (not Koenigsegg) do have a bigger shop around the corner. Expensive motors always parked on the road It is their official address SuperVettura, London Road, Sunningdale Berkshire, SL5 0DQ Zooming the map up shows a car park between the 2 shops

Qualy today has been interesting. Despite switching tubs between Hamilton and Bottas cars, Hamilton beat him into 2nd place. Verstappen meanwhile benefits from the revised Honda engine. The outcome of this race, a more 'normal' circuit, is critical if Mercedes are going to claw back the points deficit. Superb to see Sainz as best of the rest, beating his more lauded teammate.

When I worked at NEC we were sponsors of the Williams team. I had a tour of the Williams factory and the level and quality of fabrication was seriously impressive. The pinnacle of the tour was hearing and seeing an F1 engine on test at full chat with the exhaust manifold glowing red hot.

That was a fascinating race, watching two masters at work although it was Verstappen who made an error at the start of the race. Both teams tried hard to out-strategise the other but it was Mercedes who allowed the undercut to work and from then on Verstappen was in control - until his tyres started fading. I felt sure that Hamilton would be brought in to shadow him, too. But they tried to go the distance and, almost inevitably, Verstappen caught him. Bottas and Perez are simply a rung down from that level. The two McLarens did well and the two Ferraris dropped off the pace and out of the points. Nice to see Alonso and Vettel get some points.

I get the feeling that merc are not going to win the championship this year unless they develop the car abit more The tyre warm up advantage of the rb14b paid dividends again, verstappens out lap was phenomenal, the merc simply cant do that

Yep martin, 2017 springs to mind, but the budget cap is causing issues with concurrent 21 and 22 car development for everyone.
It depends if merc have some bits up their sleeve to try to address the tyre warm up issues, some more rear downforce from the floor or maybe a t wing (dunno if the merc has one) wouldnt go amiss
The merc rear end instability at the beginning of the season has had a knock on effect on the front, they seem to have to take abit of downforce off the front (wing angle ect) to balance it up and stop it being so tail happy which means it can also tend towards understeer at times too. Get the front right and the rear is wrong and vice versa
It seems to be a right pig to balance. On top of that, getting the tyres into the performance window seems to take a lap too long. Up to speed, the merc seems to be on par with the rb14b, maybe a little bit kinder on its tyres, but the rb seems to be much better on outlaps from pitstops, and on qualifying runs. Took lewis 2 runs in both q2 and q3 to get the times, max did it on the first run and then went faster again on the second run to take pole this weekend
Its fascinating that working the tyres is the differentiator this year. Rb have built a cracking car this year, merc have ended up with another diva that can either be brilliant when they manage to balance it, or a shed when they cant

I didn't write about Austria as I was quite unwell over the weekend. However, Verstappen's lead must now put him firm favourite to win the championship. It's a bit less certain for the constructors' championship at the moment, but you would have to bet on more points scored for Perez over Bottas.
Everything hinges on whether Mercedes bring any more upgrades to the car. Wolff says 'no' whereas Allison says 'yes'. Otherwise, the performance advantage of the Red Bull will win through regardless of the circuit.
The Ferraris did well while Ricciardo had a shocker with loss of power for a lap. Russell came so very close to points but his car failed him with a pneumatic pressure issue.

Well, that was a pleasant surprise. Hamilton gets non-pole position for tomorrow's sprint race (which determines pole position for the main race).
The roar from the crowd for George Russell's epic P8 was really heartwarming, he pushed that Williams way beyond any expectation. His team-mate Latifi was in P18.

Damn, that was a fine race, marred at the start by a racing incident that had Verstappen going off in a high impact accident. I'm afraid I cannot agree with the stewards' penalty as Hamilton was alongside Verstappen, who pinched him into the corner. What happened to the stewards being more lenient for the first lap? Their actions seem ever more about anti-racing.
Wonderful to see Hamilton catch and pass Leclerc at the end, despite the 10s penalty, to please the 340,000 crowd. That levels things up a bit although I still feel that Verstappen will win the championship. Good also to see the two McLarens come 4th and 5th and Sainz 6th.

Ive watched the replays quite a few times of that incident. max's car disappears backwards from shot on lewis onboard as lewis starts to turn in, then appears again coming across rapidly for the apex. Lewis starts to back out and maxs rear right his lewis front left. I cant quite figure out what lewis was supposed to do, he doesnt open the steering, he had the inside. i dont think max knew exactly where he was, and expected he would have backed out earlier. I think lewis thought max would back out and run wider. It was a six of one half a dozen of the other incident at worst for me. There will be alot of media fallout from this, neither driver will think they were in the wrong.
