The daft seb moment was the low point of the weekend for him, but there were also some sparks of the old seb there too which was encouraging. There was no spark at all last year apart from turkey for him. I reckon the data all the teams have collected from this weekend will mean that we will see progress across the board, apart from haas who have already said they wont be developing the car. The tyre data from race conditions will be most useful, testing and racing are different things. Testing wont have shown how they behave in the dirty air behind another car, red bull reckoned that bit of a slide from verstappen after giving the place back to hamilton overheated the rear tyres and pretty much buggered his chances of getting right back on it. A little bit of extra heat from the slide cooked them The 3 week gap to imola will give the teams a useful leg up

From the armchair it looks like Merc have 2 issues to fix.
1) rear stability - maybe an aero fix or just setup
2) deployment (ERS) isn't yet working as it should - they are losing out at the end of the straights
3 weeks and all that data from the race will keep them busy, as is the case with all the teams.

A very unexpected pole for Hamilton and a stunning 2nd place for Perez. So glad he's mixing it with Verstappen and not letting him get away like Gasly and Albon did.

I only saw the highlights today, but that looked like quite a race. Verstappen dominant, Hamilton rescuing a crash by coming in 2nd from a long way back, Russell and Bottas exchanging 'pleasantries'. How on earth Hamilton got fastest lap in a damaged car I haven't quite worked out yet.

Was a good race. Superb pass on LH, from the start by MV to snatch the lead.
Really not looking good for Bottas, yet again. Of course it's a long season but I sense even Wolff, who likes him is getting a bit frustrated with his Sunday performance's.
Season shaping up nicely in terms of LH v MV / MB v RB, which is what the fan's want

I sense that this will definitely be Bottas' last season with MB.

I sense today is going to be a race worth watching. The Portuguese track looks like a real handful. Bottas and Hamilton on the front row, Verstappen waiting to pounce in 3rd. Sainz in 5th, beating Leclerc!

Yesterday's race was a good watch with the track looking like a real challenge and lacking in grip. Bottas stayed ahead at the start but could never really open a gap while Verstappen was constantly menacing and stayed ahead of Hamilton for a while. You could see Hamilton was waiting to pounce and he certainly did, pulling off two excellent overtakes, the one on Bottas being at the very limits of grip.
Norris drove well again while both Perez and Sainz were asked too much from their tyres and suffered as a consequence. Alonso has started turning on the talent but unfortunately not so Vettel.

Yes, Andrew Benson of the BBC Sport F1 pages is a Hamilton lover whereas PlanetF1 are a bit cooler about him. I read both to get my balance.

Mazepin seems to be the most hated driver in F1 in recent times.
Rumour is that Haas wants to sell up and Mazepin snr will buy the team to keep his son in the drivers seat.
Also rumoured is that the Mercedes team will sell out to Ineos for next season.

He's not liked, is he?
I would not be at all surprised if Haas pulls out. You've got to have extreme staying power to be in F1. Saying that, I didn't think they would fall to the very bottom of the pack.
As for Mercedes, it's anyone's guess. Toto Wolff part owns the team, so it rather depends on his moves. And also Hamilton.

Yes, it's a good sign. I've felt for him trying to get used to the McLaren and being very open about his difficulties.
All the drivers in new cars - Ricciardo, Vettel, Alonso, Perez, have struggled to a degree.

That was a race of team strategy and relentless hunting down by Hamilton to give him the win in the face of a very fast Red Bull. Hamilton and Verstappen are in a class of their own compared with the other drivers. Bottas did not win over Toto Wolff by not letting Hamilton past when he was on a different strategy. I can see his days being numbered.

Yes, in heat of battle it was embarrassing for Bottas...ignoring team orders and then being so easily dispatched by Hamilton. Bottas will no doubt reasonably say the speed differential was due to tyres but in that case why decide to ignore team orders? He should pick his fights with the team carefully. He didn’t shine going for fastest lap either.

Now that Hamilton is ready to sort out a new contract for next year, will he persuade Toto to keep Bottas as number 2 driver ?
The last thing Hamilton would want is a team mate capable of beating him on a regular basis.
