I would happily see all flights becoming dry. Drunkards on flights are a danger to everyone. I've witnessed a few that should have been ejected. While still in flight... Totally agree, can't believe the still allow drinking before and during a flight

Ryanair announcement at the *start* of my flight - "Ladies and gentlemen, the bar is now closed as we have basically sold out of everything". That'll teach you for saving a few quid by booking one of those " Football Special" flights, Jules. Yeah me and the boyz was proper gutted not to get more pissed innit Paul. Lucky we'd already done 10 pints for breakfast in the airport bro.

Hedy Lamarr, often proclaimed “the most beautiful woman in the world.” The 26-yr-old Lamarr was thriving in Hollywood when, in September 1940, Nazi U-boats hunted down & sank a cruise ship trying to evacuate 90 British schoolchildren to Canada. 77 drowned in the bleak north Atlantic. Lamarr, a Jewish immigrant from Nazi-occupied Austria, who had been making America her home since 1938, was outraged. She fought back by applying her engineering skills to development of a sonar sub-locator used in the Atlantic for the benefit of the Allies. The principles of her work are now incorporated into modern Wi-Fi, CDMA and Bluetooth technology, and this work led to her to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2014. N.B. She should not be confused with Hedley Lamarr, seen here. (left)

Did he invent x-ray vision? I never knew that about Hedy Lamarr. How interesting.

Taken from Paul McGowan's daily post, PS Audio
Enthusiast vs. Phile What's the difference between and Audio Enthusiast and an Audiophile?
Technically, not a lot—we're all here to enjoy music and high end audio, to have fun—but this comment I received from a reader who goes by Movieguy, hit a nerve.
"As much of an enthusiast of all things two channel and home theater, I would never call myself an audiophile since I run the risk of being criticized by a know it all audiophile (who may or may not be as knowledgeable as I am). I prefer to call myself an “audio video enthusiast” since it doesn’t lay claim I know everything and if I spoke to an audiophile from that perspective I can case them out better to see if they’re an a-hole or someone who truly wouldn’t mind educating me with their knowledge."
I trust we are here to raise our awareness, to better our systems, to congregate with like minded people.
It's called community and I hope we can all respect each other enough to enjoy the benefits of our comradery.
Audiophile or Enthusiast.
I would suspect we are both.

It's an interesting viewpoint.
I personally am happy with being called an audiophile, music lover and other terms that imply a lover of high quality music reproduction.
In no way does 'audiophile' imply being a know-it-all! I certainly don't and I don't know who does. Not sure where that reader got that definition from.

Racoons Mistake Cybertruck For A Trash CanThe design of the Tesla Cybertruck has been divisive with some absolutely loving the avant-garde looks and others believing it to be a dumpster on wheels. Now the animals are weighing in and in the most honest ways possible. A Tesla owner posted on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum about going camping overnight in Minnesota recently. Some racoons tried busting into “the vault” or getting through the tonneau cover into the payload, likely because they smelled something good in there. Photos of the damage shared by the owner, known as Spidog on the forum, show the little critters tore up part of the edge of the tonneau cover but didn’t get through. They also left muddy pawprints all over it, making the identity of the culprits unmistakable. If you know anything about racoons, the little rodents love to raid trash cans for food garbage. It’s seriously their favourite nighttime activity. So, the only logical conclusion here is that these racoons looked at the Cybertruck and immediately assumed it was a trash can. Or a dumpster. Thus we have the unbiased opinion of the animals to help us settle the debate about what Tesla’s all-electric pickup truck really looks like. It’s a trash bin on wheels, folks. Of course, the Tesla faithful are yet again acting like Elon invented the tonneau cover and was the first person ever to use stainless steel body panels on a vehicle. They seem to believe no other vehicle could withstand being raided by racoons like this. But we know the truth: other than perhaps certain model years of the F-150 and Silverado, racoons would never mistake other pickup trucks for trash cans. Next, we want to see how “ the vault” holds up against a hungry grizzly bear. Anyone with a Cybertruck want to park it at Yellowstone overnight with plenty of yummy food in the bed? So I " invent" a thread where we can put all the odd amusing or interesting things that don't fit naturally and organically into an audio forum, and what happens? We've got an Admin and a Mod discussing whether they want to be described as "audiophiles" or not. The whole of the rest of the forum to discuss audiophilia, but no, let's do it here. I despair sometimes, I really do.

What it doesn't show, however, are the people who are paid via a production company, like Graham Norton for instance, and the abominable Michael McIntyre.

Yes what an absolute quagmire! And interesting to learn that a few are in the top 10 even though only part of their income is taken into account, as some work will be via BBC Studios which is an independent entity. So absolutely no transparency at all here and the mind boggles about how much someone like Michael McIntyre is making for being so desperately unfunny ... www.bbc.com/news/articles/czk0711yn49o

How is Lineker worth that kind of money? Am I missing something or does he just present football?

Here's another eye opener!
< McEnroe earned just shy of £200,000, equating to around £14,000 per day during the event (Wimbledon).
His pay of £195,000 marks a slight decrease from the £205,000 he received in the previous year. >

I think he's a talented, and knowlegeable presenter, and leads his teams of pundits/co-presenters well. But if you don't like football... McEnroe has a deep knowledge of his chosen sport, he's witty, speaks well, and people tune in to listen to him. Many of his fans will have watched his rise from bratty little ratbag to erudite elder statesman of the game, and enjoy being " in his company" so to speak and listening to his insights. He's worth whatever the BBC bean counters have calculated that he brings to their bottom line..

Both of those guys are deeply knowledgeable and you can argue that anyone on that list or paid via BBC Studios is being paid what the BBC believes is their market worth, wrongly or rightly. That doesn't stop us having a sharp intake of breath when we see what "talent" can earn. Some of the presenters on that list will earn huge amounts more than those headline figures.
