I didn't clock that Cocktail Audio and Novafidelity were the same kit.

The RU7 from Cayin, their new R2R dongle DAC, around £230. Would like to hear one.

The RU7 from Cayin, their new R2R dongle DAC, around £230. Would like to hear one. Complete with a "Soft and tender handmade magnetic leather case," too. The first time I read that I thought it was amusing enough to reprint here, but the second time made me think, "magnetic?" They must know what they're doing, but ...magnetic? It just seems wrong somehow, but I suppose my mobile has a magnetic closer on the case I bought for it. It simply seems an odd choice for a closer that's going to sit next to a complex piece of audio electronics. Hey, what do I know though? Nothing, obviously. That aside, you're right, Jules. It would be very interesting to hear one.

Yes I'm not sure I'd like a magnetic case - I recently had to buy a demagnetizer for one of my watches which had got magnetized and fkd up by some pesky little magnetic thingy like this ... I digress.
I presume this dongle is an upgrade to the recent RU6 but don't know what's different about them yet. It's a lot of money for a dongle - if it was a real keeper it could be worth it. I'd only consider it on 'sale or return' - the last dongle I bought sounded no better than my phone's DAC.

I keep misreading it as '18Bit'

This looks like a great VFM amp from Mission. How refreshing to see a manufacturer pricing sensibly. Their new 778X integrated includes a Sabre DAC, phono stage, headphone stage, Bluetooth and a nice retro aesthetic all for £549. www.mission.co.uk/778x/

The DAC section is built on what appears to be a single ESS Sabre32 ES9018K2M chip.
In today's world of all-singing all-dancing amps, it does look like a decent punt for an office system, a second system, or even a starter system. Plenty of inputs - just add speakers and sources. If Richer Sounds weren't selling the Arcam SA10 for £399.00 I'd say it was a worthy (and less expensive) competitor.
p.s. Don't panic, Mike. It comes in black too.

That does look very nice.
The local hifi repair engineer here told me if I’m looking for a great amp, but an old Cyrus 2 with PSX. He said the casework will likely be in a bad way, but said if you were willing to build the amp into a new chassi or 3D print parts, it’s hard to beat.

Ah there's some nostalgia. I was so close to buying a Cyrus 2 + PSX in the early 80's when first getting into hifi. I found a dealer in South Manchester who was so helpful and not at all condescending ... Wish I could remember the name. Was a tiny place but he had a great selection of gear. The Rock turntable always sounded immense.

Oh dear.
This young lady doesn't look at all happy with her new Cayin RU7 - she's either going to return it or throw it into the sea.

The revamp of Musical Fidelity's classic A1 integrated has finally arrived. Would love to hear one - the original always sounded superb whenever I heard it at dealers in the early 80's. Although the internals are radically upgraded it's good to see they kept the original aesthetic. www.musicalfidelity.com/products/a1/a1-2

This new HiFi Rose RS-130 streaming transport looks like a decent high end option with its fiber USB tech - around 4.2k

I always lusted after a Musical Fidelity A1, just never had the cash at the time, I think the mk11 was about £315, so the new version for £1499 seems to be a far price 30 years down the road.
If it is anything as good as the original, (hopefully even better), it could well be a giant killer and well worth a punt to build a great sounding system. Stick some good speakers on it and a good front end and enjoy.
