Alpha Audio is doing a great daily wrap-up video from High-End Munich talking about new stuff. Day 1 Day 2 I must say that I really appreciate the work that these guys are doing for the audio community with their live blind test videos of both switches, streamers, cables and so on. Jaap, the main guy behind this channel, is fairly new to the Hifi hobby, compared to many, and is still learning. He approach everything from a very open minded perspective, but also from a critical stand point, coming from a networking background. But he always start with listening, before looking at any measurements, and then try to back engineer and investigate to understand how it can be possible, which I really like! They have clearly earned a lot of respect, in a short timeframe, amongst many of the hifi manufacturers and do a lot a good interviews on their Youtube channel.

Do me a favour. Just think of how much quality amp you could get for £2700, even more if you buy used.

Does changing one of the labels to read "Stream" constitute Naim's first tentative steps towards the 21st century then?

A bit late to the party on MQA

Ignoring MQA, that could be a handy CD transport for anyone stepping into streaming but still wanting to play CDs.

I remember going into our local audio emporium back in 82 I think? listening to one and thinking, that’s a wee bit better than my Physics 12Wrms power amplifier project for school, going back into the dim and distant past here around £275 new?
The demo was pretty good, had a few penny’s saved up so one was duly ordered. It arrived a couple of weeks later, eagerly raced home to put in the system, well after a couple of hours the disappointment was etched on my face, so much so I returned to Nick @ sevenjokes, he was puzzled as to why I was so 'upset' well he played in the shop and hey presto the same result, he was somewhat surprised as well as the demo I heard a few weeks later was quantum leap above this in terms of performance. He went and swapped it for the shop 'demo' unit' and blow me it was chalk and cheese.
He (Nick) was intrigued to say the least, he whipped the top off to find a very different look inside, also they was written on white tape on the underside of the lid and the base of amplifier 'Shop demonstration unit only not for resale'
AM at his best I feel

How odd. Wonder what the explanation for that is? Make a fine batch and send to retailers to demo, bulk ship something else! Sharp practise? - not by retailer!

It sounds like manufacturer sharp practices to me, creating demo specials. I'm sure I've read about this happening with review samples, too.

Very similar to when we review cars, we were shipped out to a nice Eui circuit, given plenty of hospitality and some fn cars to play with with great fun, however when we picked up the UK models to further the real world testing, all I can say is 'Press Prepped' was the term we used.

It's just a name, they are indentical. The UK units are called Novafidelity, the rest world are Cocktail audio. Its a Korean domian onwership issue, been that way since 2014

Great story Tony ... "sevenjokes"!!
It seems a strange way to sell amplifiers if it's always going to end in dissapointment for the customer.

The practice was quite rife back in the day and maybe in the not too distant past as well Musical in-Fidelity when Michaelson was heading it up were well versed in this practice I am led to believe especially with that big old borg cube they produced. One good friends of the late J Bamford used to wear asbestos kacks to work with Mr Clarlient player, the second largest Ego in audio only to Mr Paul 'I am Hifi in the UK' Miller, his name was Jules, I did look at his own version the AM have produced for him a few years back , not so stock I feel

Thanks for the clarification, Tony. What confused me is that they seem to have been knocking around for four years or so, but there are current reviews appearing in the UK.
