Ah but notice the number of input and valve permutations possible is considerably massive which means full validation of your performance has not yet occurred;)

You have just consigned Alan to infinite regression!

I'm doing the regression testing and I'm just saying don't get too cocky yet! Personally I already know he isn't error free. But he is good, definitely;)

Few pics... Latest valve acquisition is the Nazi era Telefunken RS242. Only like the TMBF1 above I can't use them yet. Two 0.75W resistors are arriving on Monday to solder into the pictured switch. Not looking forward to doing that TBH. I'm not the best at it and it's going to be awkward. Couple of pics of the DAC internals as it is these days. It just keeps on changing:D Looks like crap but there is some very expensive stuff in there in terms of component prices in the important places.

I just thought I'd make the point that even though there are expensive bits in there, it doesn't get even remotely close to what retail would charge you for products containing such bits. But most of you probably know that anyway.

That Lampi really is a gift that keeps on giving for you, isn't it. You've had a huge amount of enjoyment with the ongoing tinkering.
And it's a tube roller's dream come true.
System tuning to your particular requirements par excellence Quite a lot in common with MartinT's approach to system development - choose a basically good component and tune the **** out of it.

It is better now than it ever has been, that is without question.
Now I can feed Tesla's RD27AS at a proper 4V heater voltage (the nearly 211 sized valve in the pic) it is just sounding awesome, especially with a Westinghouse VU71 rectifier.
The new JL Sounds USB interface is also appreciably better than the Amanero one. I never got on with that.

I shoved the resistors in today. Raised the two ceramics and added two 0.6 Ohm resistors onto the 6 wafer switch wafers 3 & 4 tabs 1 & 3 and f me it worked. TMBF1 is running spot on 4V as it should and it's nice. Low microphony as it's small, well made and has that unusual horizontal grid. I like it, it's cute. Unfortunately one of the Telefunken RS 242 is noisy. What's that Elvis said? Return to sender! Fortunately I know the address:D

Actually, after running them for a few hours, the noisy Telefunken RS242 stopped being noisy and is staying at the set voltage rather than drifting about a lot. They may not have been used since 1944. Both RS242 and TMBF1 are top triodes with low microphony and excellent sound quality. So far;)

Justin, is there anything in your Lampi that is unmodified by you 🤣

The DAC board is original. I am reluctant to change it as I think I prefer it to the R2R Soekris boards used in Golden Gates. But Lampi have moved on from those now anyway. The Dueland output caps are original, but I generally route through the bigger Jupiters. Not a lot else is. Lampizator and Alan have modded the hell out of it. Alan in my opinion is approximately 325% better than the Lampizator guys. Anyway, new kids on the block. These were fantastically euphonic playing rock/metal last night. Radio Technique R86.

Sounds great even just on my phone - love the bass guitar on that. The Apogees must be fab.

Thanks Jules. It is just a recording, though. Sitting in there listening to it is very different. Massively exhilarating in situ when played loud I think.
The recording is way too bass heavy and lacking mid/hf bite compared to sitting there. I put it down to this new OnePlus Nine Pro phone. Needs some work in the mic/recording dept. The 60 Watt nominal Luxman is maxed out yet still behaving banging out at least 300 Watts I reckon. Cool amp if not cheap.
This has nothing to do with my system but I just love it.
They where great live in Bristol a few years back when I dragged the wife to see them. She loved it.
