Ah well, if you want my ultimate .... A trifle over £20k, though, I think. $263k and 3600lb. Ah but you have NEVER heard them so how do you know? Wind up Jerry day. I have, of course. Multiple times. So I know.

I'd never heard the 116f either, until they turned up chez Jerry. Only heard the 101E at shows, but the 116f turned out rather well.
Actually I suspect that for my tastes and my room the 116f are the best fit.

I had to giggle, Edward. The Magico's are tight as a rat's arse, cool and quite seriously uninvolving. The Tannoys are big 'n ripe 'n woolly. You couldn't have chosen two more extremes, neither really to my taste!

I've heard them, but maybe not under ideal conditions.

You couldn't have chosen two more extremes, neither really to my taste! Indeed, chosen for the extremes as you mentioned. Move from one room for the big and bouncy to another room for the non coloured detail. Only bumped into Magicos a couple of times. Yes certainly 'tight' but did have some 'magic' about them in their presentation. But TAD would be my preference. But I guess if there was speaker panic buying then there may well be speaker panic sellers as well in which case I would pop over to the young Tony at Coherant and grease his palm withn some silver.

Actually I suspect that for my tastes and my room the 116f are the best fit. I've heard the Xtremes every year I go to Munich which is a lot of years now. They are always playing crap on them. I still have no idea what those bass towers can do. None. Zero. Zilsch. Beginning to suspect they take fake towers in as the real ones are too much hassle.

It's not like you to be shy, Justin. Why didn't you ask for something challenging to be played?

That response shows you have never been in the MBL room at Munich... It's usually packed with either a live cellist or a set play list. I don't think its ever been my favourite room or even in the top 3 or 4 but it always sounds fairly decent. There's a distinct slight metallic tinge to them. And 101E. I don't hear that in 116F. Res is excellent though. All are good speakers though no question.

BTW if they played some of my stuff loud I might change that opinion. Who knows.

Someone on FB put forward the Tannoy Westminster Royals as the best speakers ever. I've heard them and they do scale very well. In all other regards, they don't even come close. The Kingdoms may be better, but I'd lay odds they still have the same family sound and lack of resolution.

The Kingdoms may be better, but I'd lay odds they still have the same family sound and lack of resolution. I’d love to hear them someday. I’ve never heard any big Tannoys, but ultimate resolution and scale would be on the list for my dream speakers, that’s for sure.

I agree with Martin when I heard a pair I thought a good sense of scale and good with vocals
