The guitarist's guitarist. Started playing at 3 years old so has a few years of playing. Must have crawled around the guitar rather than holding it. Discover him right away if you don't already know about him. Pick any one you like they range from good to fantastic AllMusic DiscographyI'm going through all of his albums in date order for the first time ever. Interesting to see how he changed. Ry Cooder self titled is the first and good. Into the purple valley the second also good. Boomer's Story Paradise and Lunch good and better than I remember it So far he is playing acoustic guitar, mandolin and on most vocals With the improvements to my system since I last played these there is more music to be discovered. Detail is superb from the excellent work in the studio making the albums. Seems he had a say in manufacturing if not actually at a desk. More later

Don't forget that Bop Til You Drop was the first ever non-classical digital recording, recorded on huge Soundstream kit. Its absolutely superb, too, contrary to some opinions that call it flat and lifeless. Not to my ears, it isn't. You do have to turn the volume up, though, as it's set at a low level.

Absolutely not. May be my favourite and could have been my first RC LP
Strict date order as per Stratmangling rules
Be interesting to listen to Bop to see what the first digitally recorded album sounds like with the system revealing so much

It sounds more Cajun than Hawaiian to me. Good album.

Have you got this, which predates all of his solo albums, Mike?
(I know you have 'Safe as Milk')

This one for me at the moment - I enjoy most all of his albums, but I really like this as it's current to where he is right now.

Over half way through Ry's albums and taking on board the musicianship in his various styles and genres Hell of a range
Will carry on when I have assimilated more

Still assimilating into what seems about 4 different styles and times of Ry's career
The first 3 albums are him mostly playing old blues songs acoustically
Paradise and Lunch is a slight jink
Down at the field is a rarity. Seems official and recorded well if it was a bootleg. Looks official now 1974, released in 2011
The Chicken Skin music a step or two towards TexMex style
Show Time - a live album with tracks you will have from studio albums but may like to hear tracks live and slightly different

The only album I've heard and really like is Paradise and Lunch. Truly a great album in my opinion. The rest I can well do without.
I may well have missed something like Paradise and Lunch (could it possibly be as good?), that he has done, in which case let me know what it is and I'll listen to it and see 😉

I think Bop Till You Drop is up there with Paradise and Lunch. Great songs with a gospel/soul vibe, superb performances and productions, and quite remarkable sound for the first digital recording. You need to turn the volume up as it's recorded at quite a low level. It needs 4-5dB above your usual setting. Try Go Home Girl...

Some nice tunes, more commercial sounding but not in the same league - for me.. Just took this pic as I'm up here having a listen.. Look what album is out, although I RARELY play vinyl!
