I made some quite radical changes this year Speakers/ I have gone for a scaffold frame design with the drivers being totally suspended. A big thank you has to go out to Vic for the design. Also hearing Martin Podiums with the Ushers pushed me in this direction I been resisting this for months. It gave me a lot more openness to the sound but also due to this I was hearing more issues with the treble. I also added Beyma drivers to the PRV they are better in the treble whilst the PRV has a better mid-range punch that I love to hear in my music Digital I started off the year with the SOtM but it just got more complex to use with Streaming so I moved onto the Limetree a lovely sounding unit but had quite a bit of Bluetooth issues so I got the ASCUS Tinkerboard and added a reclocker DAC I moved from the seg to the Topping D70 a nice upgrade. Amplification I moved from the Philips Black Tulip to the Temple Audio Monoblocks with Superchargers (Supercap PSU) I also got a Coherent PSU and a modified e-TP60E Mains conditioner to help with the factory noise I get during the week.

I'm not sure that I have an 'audio journey', it's more of a random walk. Looking at my buy/sell tracking spreadsheet, the most frequent changes have been cables and headphones. This year I finally gave up trying planar magnetic headphones and now just accept that I don't like the sound of that technology. It was attending the Kegworth Wam forum show in March that actually finally convinced me - I had been messing around at the £600 and under level and not been impressed - at Kegworth there was a room with multi-£k examples, and they sounded just the same. OK, Jerry, time to ignore the ecstatic reviews and give up on them! Amps - lots of changes. Krell 400xi, Vincent SV-234, Crayon CFA-1, a heavily modded vintage Cambridge P110, Hegel H90 have all been enjoyed but didn't stay long. After 2 years I finally decided to sell my Trigon monoblocks - they were classy amps. Also now gone after a 2 year stay, the excellent little Taiwanese LA Audio L30 el84 valve amp. I'm currently happy with 4 amps in rotation - Apart Champ 2, Marantz HD-AMP1, LP O-L1 and a TPA3116 t-amp. DACs have come and gone. Benchmark DAC1 HDR went down well with its dynamic and exuberant presentation. Also a Chord Hugo mk1 and mk2; liked the mk1, hated the mk2. A brief sojourn with Yulong DA8 and Aquila DACs left me impressed. A Leema Elements DAC was way too bright and brash. A Metrum Acoustics Octave NOS DAC was OK, but didn't excite very much. I'm now the happy owner of an Audiobyte Black Dragon and Teddy Pardo PSUed Chord 2Qute and will be hanging on to both for a while, I think. Main speakers have been unchanged for 10 years, MBL116f - they do the biz for me. Auralex platforms were an impressive upgrade for those this year, though. So, yes, busy-busy.

From my blog entry... 2019 ReviewIn the New Year's Resolution thread, I said that I had hardly spent anything on hi-fi this year. Strictly speaking, that's true, but it belies the number of changes I've actually made. I decided to sell equipment and reinvest, with the theme being to achieve the best single-source system I could build within the constraints of not spending any new money on it. Source: Ayre SACD player and Technics turntable sold; Pi 3 streamer retired, replaced by Asus Tinker Board S DAC: Beresford Caiman SEG sold; replaced by LKS MH-DA004 Reclocker: acquired a Mutec MC-3 USB Preamp: Pass XP-20 sold; replaced by Burson AB-160 XLR buffer, with the LKS on volume duty Power amp: Belles SA-100 left alone Speakers: Usher Be-20 left alone but now placed on custom Townshend Podiums Regenerators: PS Audio P10 left alone, but powering only the power amp; new P3 acquired to power the source components Cable: much rationalisation and tuning, all Black Cats replaced by Coherent and Audioquest cables Accessories: SGS grounding boxes, different fuses, Mad Scientist tweaks, more Black Ravioli feet It's been a hell of a year, pursuing the best sound quality I could achieve with hi-res streaming from Qobuz. I am extremely happy with the system now, it does all that I wanted and more.

It's actually been pretty huge for me for a change. Moving from the Pi to the ATB, using power banks to power the ATB, new Weiliang DAC, discovering AudioQuest cables, adding a 10" sub. My second system is sounding pretty damn good, and there's quite a bit left to do to it in the new year. There's also the new Yamaha AV amp, and a new Humax HDR-1100S, plus completely re-cabling my AV setup using AQ gear.

Few different speakers have come and gone...just buying them cheap then moving them on if I didn't like them. Sold a few things that were gathering dust too.
The prize find and about the only thing I'm keeping is the Omar speakers - I really like them.

Very last gasp of 2018 was the monster change The TAD CD/Pre/DAC, TAD power amp. Various Coherent cables and the ridiculously good RTZ grounding box 2019 was tiddling around by comparison Just some more upgrades for Coherent cables, mains conditioners and plugs, the CD improvers Sound quality started off wonderful Jan 1st Has become wonderfuller

Biggest change for me this year has been moving from my previous Focal Electra 1028 Be Loudspeaker to my new (to me) Quadra Aurum Montan VIII Loudspeakers. I tried hard but never really got on with the Focal speakers, always finding them a bit too forward, although they sounded 100% better than they did prior to my other upgrades a couple of years ago. Coherent Systems also upgraded the DAC section of my Nova Fidelity X40 streamer which was a significant step up in performance. Next year? not sure yet

Modified SEG with supercaps, new clock, new RCA inputs on RCA and coaxial, plugged into Coherent supercapped power supply. SGS-1 grounding box. 3 x Bybee iQSE. Black Ravioli pads. 1 x Schumann Resonator CHARTRES Mk3. High Fidelity Cables MC-0.5. Mad Scientist Nitro Nano power cables. One is hard wired to an Eichmann Power Strip, the other is used with my amp. 3 x SR Orange fuses. 1 x PerfectPath Technologies Omega+ EMat.

Well, I haven't changed a single thing! Me neither, in fact I've only made one change since since 2011 and that was speakers in 2016 due to my move. I did try out a pair of Spendors courtesy of TonyC (thanks Tony) last year, but didn't really warm to them. I doubt much will change next year either, unless I move - then I will definitely change the speakers.
I did think about rebuilding/powder coating a Technics 1210/Michell Techno Arm, which is currently stripped down to it's component parts, but you can't rush these things
I suspect in reality that as it's totally stripped down, the parts may well end up on eBay!

Looking back, for me this year produced the biggest incremental improvements in sound quality I have ever experienced. The first was via Longdog Audio Quartz Turntable PSU MKII. The second is down to an Entreq Tellus Grounding Box and an assortment of their Konstatin and Challenger cables.

Having followed the subject of signal grounding with much interest throughout 2018, I was loaned an Entreq Silver Tellus ground box, together with assorted cables to play around with last Christmas.
I tried different configurations (the Entreq silver Tellus having the ability to ground 4 different components) concentrating on source components and my preamp.
Early in 2019, I made contact with Tony (Coherent Systems) and travelled to his home for an audition of his RTZ3 ground box. This demonstration was enough to convince me to investigate further and Tony followed up with a visit to my home armed with an RTZ3 ground box and various cables. It was very obvious from disconnecting the Entreq Silver Tellus, that it's contribution had been negligible, compared to the improvement in detail resolution, stereo image and scale that the RTZ3 brought to my system.
The only downside was the number of individual grounding planes that had to be addressed by owning a 4-box dCS Vivaldi digital front end. I had a substantial number of unused RCA, XLR, USB and BNC inputs to ground and each CR grounding cable that was added, produced yet more music from the reference track used for listening. The improvements in sound quality equated to a more palpable presence of individual instruments within the soundstage, background silence and ease and flow of the music, without harshness or digital edge.
I ended up purchasing the Coherent RTZ3, together with 6 of the CR ground cables. Tony was generous enough to include a BD grade RCA ground cable to use on my dCS Vivaldi SACD/CD Transport.
Over the next few months, I bought four further Coherent CR ground cables, bringing the total of different RCA, XLR, BNC and USB ground cables connecting my system to the RTZ3 box, to 11 (The RTZ3 can support up to 18 ground connections).
These grounding upgrades dealt with a lot of spurious RFI/EMI in my system and resulted in a more coherent (no pun intended) sound, which I am very happy with. To those that haven't tried system signal grounding, IMHO there are substantial benefits to be gained!
Later in 2019, I tried several of Tony's Coherent 6D mains power cords in my system and ended up purchasing four, that Tony had traded in against his fabulous BD mains power cord.
Throughout 2019, I had read a lot about re-clocking and discussed this with Tony, who built a GPS-referenced 10MHz master clock that he brought round and tried with my dCS Vivaldi full stack , which incorporates the facility to use a reference 10MHz clock input. This trial was enough to convince me that re-clocking was something I should pursue, with benefits in sound quality resulting (like fine-focusing a camera lens - stereo image width and depth improved, detail retrieval enhanced and of all things, bass extended!).
Via Coherent Systems, I obtained a German-made Mutec Ref10 Master Clock in August 2019. The Ref10 has 2 x 50Ohm outputs and 6 x 75Ohm outputs via BNC connectors. Tony also supplied one of his Coherent 6D BNC clock cables to connect the Ref10 to my dCS system.
The result has been a real game-changer, as others who have experimented with re-clocking can testify, with another substantial lift in system performance and sound quality achieved.
The final purchase of 2019 was a Coherent BD mains power cord (again pre-owned) which came with a Synergistic Research 'Blue' fuse fitted to the Furutech mains plug.
Curious about the various posts I had read about SR fuses and following a conversation with Tony, the 'Blue' was swapped out for an SR 'Orange' fuse as I intended to use the BD mains power cord as the first cable from the wall socket to my mains power conditioner/distribution box.
I relocated the SR 'Blue' to the mains cable feeding my DAC and followed up with the purchase of an SR 'Red' fuse for the mains power cord supplying my power amp.
Other 2019 purchases included a ground box and LPSU for the router, a MeiCord Opal ethernet cable (from router to TV, dCS Upsampler or Melco N1ZH streamer/HD - depending on whatever I am using at the time! I also bought Black Ravioli Big Pads for my Mutec Ref10 and RTZ3 ground box.
So, 2019 was quite an expensive year, but did bring my system along in spades in terms of sound quality and the enjoyment I derive from listening to music through it.
I now consider my system fairly well-sorted (yeah, I know!) and don't really have any major purchases planned for 2020. However ...........................

One more winner for grounding boxes. Very gratifying that this forum keeps an open mind unlike many others.

I'm also interested in your findings with the Mutec master clock, Steve. Further enhancement of my Mutec reclocker will be on the cards somewhere down the line.

I may have resolved the power cable for the P3 already, and it's not even January yet! I'll put it down for 2020 so that I have something to talk about in next year's review
